WTF is wrong with this country?
2yo raped and murdered
3yo tortured
2yo made to fight each other
3 x 15yo murdered (at least victim one is completely innocent)
And that's probably just the tip of the iceberg.
Society really has become rotten.

won't be caught.
...that's what I'm exaggerating of course but I feel I've made my point. I'm a good, decent guy but I'm under no illusions - if I wanted to know what its like to kill someone I could knife someone to death tonight and no danger would I ever be found. Even if they did find me because I've had an otherwise completely crime free life and because it was an act so crazy out of character I'd probably get off with an insanity plea. Joke. Criminals have no fear at all because the entire system is there to support their lifestyle.

The case of poor Casey is especially harrowing. Truth be told I doubt if that sort of behaviour can be legislated for. However the punishment should fit the crime. A family member of mine who works as a taxi driver, took some distraught relatives of Casey's family to the house where this inexplicable act took place. It was all very hard to take in he said.

Things aren't great, for sure, but 60,609,148 people didn't commit one of these crimes. Show sympathy, repulsion, disgust and disbelief, but don't blame the country.

Evening James. That is a valid point but I have to reluctantly agree with Kiwi's sentiment about society on a downward spiral as a whole. Cases such as the ones highlighted are thankfully very very rare, but they do still happen and happen more often now than in days of yore. As kids we used to wander everywhere without fear, but nowadays I wouldn't let my kids out of the street alone. Maybe we were foolhardy when young or perhaps I'm now paranoid as an adult.

I maintain that I can walk these streets and live my life free of fear. I know of nobody within my circle of friends, within my family or people with whom I associate professionally that are or have been victims of serious crime. I refuse to be frightened.
If people are scared then they become a victim. Who wants to be a victim?

These are very sad crimes indeed - only the gun crime element is new - but still thankfully the merest fraction of what it is in some countries. This list would be a single evening in a single sub-precinct in Washington DC.

I think there are significant sections of the country like that - but there are certainly crime ridden areas too. Very much dependent where you live.
I think much of the voilent crime in our country is drink related - although not apparently the disgraceful incidents referred to by the thread starter.

But to a degree that is putting your head in the sand. Most of us on here are going to be reasonably well-off.
Most of us aren't living in council estates and having our lives ruined by antisocials. Millions are.
How many on this forum live in Finsbury Park, Manor House, Tottenham, Brent, Lambeth, Elephant and Castle, Croydon, Camberwell (I have black friends who won't set foot there)?
The molestation stuff has always happened, but I'm still fairly certain that the social situation contributed to all of those attacks.
Would women have egged a 2yo to fight 30 years ago? 30 years ago would an intact family structure have helped prevent the other attacks?
And I still get angry when i read that they only got 11 years each for the torture on that girl.
