Sometimes I find myself looking at Laura's diamond for ages just watching the way the light reflects off it.

if you get into the subject properly there is so much to learn about the little stones. I spent hours on the t'internet researching and several afternoons down the jewelery quater in Birmingham and had dialogue with some dealers in Antwerp to.
Found just what I wanted in the end.
As for cost I think you should buy what you want to not what you think you ought to - and a bigger diamond doesn't always mean that its better....

Quality was more important to us. In the end we got a D/VS1 0.5ct diamond with a very good cut and slight florescence. We compared it to a lower quality full carat diamond and frankly there was no comparison IMHO despite being the same price. The smaller diamond was much brighter, clearer and is totally eye clean whereas I could make out a number of inclusions in the bigger diamond and it was noticeably yellow despite being of a reasonable colour grade itself.
