Can vent my cooker hood to neighbours garden?
Getting a new kitchen fitted next week, the plan is to fit the cooker hood to an external wall. This wall is adjacent to the neighbours drive/garden.
Can we vent into next door? Common sense says not, but venting to the rear of my property is going to be difficult. Anyway, wots the point as its only 3 feet from where the vent would be if it were on to my neighbour.
Any comments??
Thanks,
Matt.

You can get covers that go over the grilles that direct air downwards as opposed to striaght out the side of the house. Available at nearly all DIY stores, and almost everything is manufactured by Marley

I know of a case where a property owber who was unpopular at the best of times vented their gas boiler through the side wall, into an aluminium stack which went up the side of their house, but as their external wall was the boundary it was in the neighbours garden.
Neighbour complained but nothing happened. House went on the market, neighbour complained. House sold, and on day of completion neighbour got out a saw and cut off the aluminium stack! Cue flashing blue lights as police are called, lots of solicitors etc!
The moral of the story is to ensure nothing overhangs your neighbours garden, particulary without their consent!

It does matter if they move and the new owner gets indignant about it! I certainly agree that it should be discussed with them, but if there is any chance that someone can argue its not legal at a later date don't do it.
