Default Hotel recommendation in London...

Hi - hopefully someone can help!

Taking the kids to see Lion King in a few months time. Want to pick a nice hotel in London, but no idea which one. Needs to be reasonably close - i.e. in the thick of it.

We (my wife and I!) like Malmaison hotels - not checked them out in London yet, but does anyone on here have any other recommendations that are:

a) similar in style to Malmaison;
b) in a good location and not too noisy - I like my sleep!;
c) have rooms that take four people - i.e. two adults and two kids.

Cheers

If you like the boutique type hotels (and Malmaison are very nice) - you could try the Charlotte Street Hotel W1 postcode, so it's pretty central. Nice choice of rooms too - not that cheap, but not silly money either.

Stayed in similar circumstances last week.
We stayed at the Millenium Gloucester in Kensington, booked through Superbreaks at a cost of £105 per night with breakfast.
Best thing was that the nearest tube station (Gloucester Road) was 15 seconds walk from the hotel and you were straight onto the Piccadilly Line and only a few stops to all the action.
Couldn't fault it.

My current favourite

myhotel Bloomsbury , Bayley Street, Bedford Square, London - Discount London Hotels

good location and takes 4-5 mins to walk to Oxford street/ charing cross road. so great for Covent garden etc.

safe area and I find the staff are relaxed and cool. some hotel staff seem all to be wanna be models and have egos to match !!

There's the Covent Garden Hotel

I would NOT recommend the Strand Palace (which is next door), The Savoy is close, but it's not it the style of Malmaison, and it's not cheap either.

Thumbs up

Covent Garden hotel is the sister hotel of the Charlotte Street Hotel. Both are nice, but Cov Garden just shades it, IMHO. Circa £300 normally, not £160...

PS Strand Palace is not next door - it's on the Strand , south of Cov Garden whereas the Covent Garden Hotel is just off 7 dials and so is North of Cov Garden. However, the Strand Palace is awful and is primarily the home to cheap package deals.

Just got back from Dirty Dancing......

And although it was a carbon copy of the screen play on stage (and my **** went numb) the place was a complete fanny palace..

Strand palace is OK, its a 3 minute walk to all the shows, and TBH who cares what the room is like as you won't be spending all your time in it....
