Question No insurance docs, tax tomorrow?

A bit of advice please. Bought a new car and took out an insurance on it, starting on 18th january, and paid for in full on 23rd january.

I've just realised that a) the tax is up on said car tomorrow, and b) I haven't yet received any insurance certificate. Their offices are now closed. I HAVE got the V5, however.

What do I do if no docs arrive tomorrow?

I have access to a fax at wife's place of work, would a post office accept a faxed copy of a certificate?

Can I tax it online, now I have the V5, if I can get the policy number off the insurance co?

Any advice gratefully received.

You should be able to do it online as long as ins co have entered details on MID. PO will not accept a fax - only original HTH

IIRC You cant tax the car online without the reminder notification as it has a reference number on it.

you can tax it over the phone as well 0870 850 4444
think you will still need the referance number though.

You can do it without having your insurance doc online and even without the reminder as long as you have your log book and registration number.

Nah, this is the youngest lad's car. Not really my problem, but you know how it is?

Thanks for all replies so far.

I've found out off their website that I CAN tax it online so long as I have a new style MoT and the new style V5, both of which I have, but of course it'll depend on whether the insurance co have entered his details yet. They ought to have, they were paid last tuesday, over a week ago.

Apparently, according to recorded info on the DVLA site, you still get the 14 days grace if you're waiting for documents, or if you tax it online/by phone and are waiting for the disc to arrive. I thought THAT had gone. Oh well, you live and learn.

Just waiting for the post, then, if no docs, I have to phone the insurance co.

Yep........and most of the time, it's no good reporting them, as they are on foreign plates, so not on the DVLA computer.
