Just installed a new copy of half life, it is now installing a whooper of a patch, slow even across my 2 meg conection, any idea what patch it is installing?

Its only the version updater for half life. Didn't take me that long

If you want to play counter strike and you only installed the Half life game you need to download the MOD version 1.3 which is just under 100 Mb. Its worth it.

I got a Counter strike cd as well, shall I download the latest retail mod or use the cd?

dOH,
ok starting from scratch. You can take 2 route to CS.

1) Install the Counterstrike CD, get the updates and download the patches.

2) Install Halflife, update to 1.108. Download the Mod version 1.3.

In my opinion the MOD version is better. The fastest server I have found for downloading the stuff is cyborg2.com.

Which route do you want to take?

Ok for less hassle take the MOD route and forget about the CS cd you got in the pack.

Steps to take

Install Half Life

Update it using the updater program

Download and install full Counter strike MOD v1.3

Just goto cyborg2.com for more info.......
