Default tax bill

A friend of mine ahs just had atax bill, all 3grand of it which needs to be paid by end of the money, so her accountant tells her.

is there anyway to get a postponement so she can get the cash saved up?

yeah mate tell me about it, been a few issues though over the past few months though, including beeing off work for a few weeks after being rushed into hospital

I'm not sure they'll let you postpone the any payments but it doesn't hurt to ask I suppose.
Realistically you should be looking into ways of getting that cash.
You could do a cash advance off a credit card into a bank account and then quickly stiff it on to another card and make full use of these 0%'s.
It will sting but not as much as late payment fines and interest charges which you will get with IR.

short answer no, you cant get it postponed

I had the same problem last year

I argued and argued with them, took all my payslips, tax code notifications (all 25 of them) all letters from them to say they were wrong

in the end they made a mistake, got me mixed up with several different tax offices, I still had to pay it (only 300 quid) and the answer was pay up or legal action, no way of having it deferred for any amount of time

thats a possibility, perhaps, getting to the stage of selling the car to pay it, needs to come up with it by end of this month

They will charge for late payment! Did me last time and it was only a week late. Have already arranged to pay my Jan tax bill (I'm a good boy)

forgot to add, interest is accrued on any outstanding amount and doesnt stop accruing till the amount owed is cleared
