I holiday in Branscombe/Sidmouth at least once a year and it's a lovely part of the world... It's awful to see it being descended on by every pikey and their dog to steal (because it's very illegal) the goods washed up on the shore...
I hope the sub human scavengers pick up drums of toxic waste mistaking them for tasty wine and drink them...

Apparently a lot of it is turning up on ebay

Think I'm going to register a new account and **** a few auctions up

BTW Pete, salvaging shipwrecked goods is indeed not illegal Failing to return said goods when asked by the rightful owner is illegal

While some may think it's "OK" to take the items because they belong to a company and feel that it's not really hurting anyone, you have to feel sorry for the woman I heard on the radio this morning who saw on the television people helping themselves to her possessions. They were being shipped as she was emigrating. Family heirlooms, furniture and other household items she will probably never see again.

What car is this?

I'd feel too much of a pikey to be taking stuff from the beach, but there were some decent car parts and gearboxes washing up

I think it has always been a tradition down here that if there is a shipwreck, whatever is washed up is fair game.

Surely it is up to the owners/insurers to reclaim their possessions - that's something that could be policed. Howver they dont seem to be showing m,uch of an interest...

I see these entrepreneurs doing us an anti polution and anti litter service. I certainly dont want to lie next to rusting BM's and nappy sacks on the beach in summer!. E bay 'salty goods' is the place for them!

Nowt wrong with grasping an opportunity with both hands - it's pure jealousy to complain about it

I'd be on the beach kicking everyone out the way if I was within a sensible distance

Police were doing nothing.... Police should have been doing something!

Just a few simple questions would do.

PC: What are you doing with that then sonny?
******: I'm getting myself a free BMW motorbike.
PC: Well you're nicked then.

Coppers probably had a doughnut or two to finish or worse, nabbed a couple of the bikes for themselves.

Fair to say people are descending on the area. Sky seem to be interviewing "beach combers" all day long. Yesterday, apparently, three blokes from Liverpool wandered along looking for freebies.

These entrepeneurs as you call them are the litter problem

The vast majority of the containers hit the beach still sealed. The pikey scum have created the litter problem breaking them open to see what's inside, then throwing the stuff they don't want all over the beach

I agree the police are part of the problem

Anyone caught breaking open a container could have been arrested because that's criminal damage. In fact **** arrested, they should have been kneecapped on sight

Should get Tony Martin down there, he knows how to deal with thieving pikeys

But how typical of modern Britain it is. To hell with the environment and being fair with other peoples property - it's all about being greedy and grabbing as much as they can for themselves.

I find these people quite revolting.

Surely if BMW (or whoever) don't claim the bikes back then they will no doubt claim on insurance, who will then own the items in question and can rightfully claim them?
Can't imagine an insurance company giving anything away for free!

Maybe its the state of the UK that leads society into the greed of grabbing all this "free stuff".

We get hammered on everything we do, motoring, income tax, groceries, fuel, heating, whatever we do we have to pay over the odds for it, we're taxed to death and the first site of something "for free" we all jump at the chance to take it.

Having a chance to get something for nothing is very tempting in our greedy tax led society.

As reported in The Telegraph:
Men were reported to have descended on to the beach at 2am and removed the motorbikes by tractor. Disputes broke out as to who had been the first to claim them. One bike was even ridden away. "It had keys and they put petrol in it and off it went," said a witness.
