Default Microwave went BANG!!! Russell Hobbs con!

What a load of bollox!

We bought a new microwave in March last year and wanted something decent, you know a good quality, decent high street brand, rather than the cheap and cheerful rubbish you find in the supermarkets, so...

We shopped around, found a good spec Russell Hobbs jobbie and thought, hmmm theyve been round for a few years so should be a good buy.

Anyway, it went bang and a very loud bang at that.

Cant find the receipt, must have gone astray in the house move, but thought RH would honour the warranty and maybe check the serial number to make sure it wasnt a 3 year old microwave that had gone pop.

Apparantely, Russell Hobs havent made microwaves for about 30 years but they do let Currys use their brand name on some cheap chinese **** microwaves. WTF!!!

So, heres me back in March buying a RH microwave cos i thought it would be decent quality, paid a premium for the brand name and it turns out its just as cheap and nasty as the supermarket jobbies i was avoiding.

Bottom line is, RH dont wanna know.

Is that legal?

By a cheap one from the supermarket.

If it lasts more than a year it's £20 well spent.

They're probably all made in the same factory in China anyway !

I think the mistake was imagining the Russell Hobbs was a decent brand

Agreed, makes you wonder how many other brands rent out their name for $$$.

I dont mind buying a cheap TECHNOSONIC TV cheap when its really a Thomson underneath but i do when its the other way round. Conned!

I would honour Currys with the same obligation you intended to cast on RH themselves. That being, regardless of receipt, if they are the manufacturer, or the face of the manufacturer, take the serial number and a leather glove to the shop and demand satisfaction...
Homer Simpson would never have stood for such shady shenanigans...

Like in all life situations, do what I do. Stop. Think, "what would Homer do"...

If you paid with credit card statement or bank statement with details of thge transaction, that'll be enough to take it back and get it swapped

microwaves are that cheap these days to be honest that I would class them as a consumable.

Throw away society, got an LG microwave from Comet when my last one died for less than £30, 850W, digital controls etc. When that dies I'll just by another £30 job

Likewise I feel so smug when people ask how much it cost! It's not even my main TV

I'm a great believer in throw away appliances, etc. I've always bought at the lower end of the market provided it has the functionality I require and looks the part (if that's going to be a relevant consideration). If it breaks down just after a year just replace it. It probably won't though! 3 years ago I bough a cheap 1400 spin washing machine for about £120 and it hasn't missed a beat. It's getting picked up tonight for about £50 as I'm going built in. Meanwhile people spend £400 on a top of the range Hotpoint and get no more use/value out of it.

All this said I did buy a pretty decent plasma and A/V receiver but I think that's slightely different. There is a world of difference in PQ between a good and bad display.

my Thomson tv works with the remote for my Sony DVD 5.1 setup.. and operates loads of features which should only work with a Sony TV..

so the Thomson and Sony must be pretty similar inside ?

And Loewe are made by Philips.

One of the funniest things I heard was when a snobby mate with his Loewe TV and DVD player tried to make his DVD player region free - entered the codes and then everytime he turned it on afterwards a Philips splash screen came on.
