Thelwall viaduct and runcorn bridge are shut up here... Girlfriends school (shes a teacher not a pupil) have had a window blown in. Our office is losing roof tiles faster than I'm losing my marbles. Trees down all over the place...Not good...
Went out for a smoke before... Invigourating

A big container ship has sunk down this way.

Rumours are circulating that some of the containers housed new helicopters...

I been out on my lunch in Liverpool and someone has been knocked over after being blown into oncomming traffic, some things outside M&S crashed into the windows and smashed them, people hanging onto lamp posts to stop being blow away. My office is right on the river though so its all open and windy as hell here!

We've had the storms up here (Scotland) for the last 3 weeks....

Pretty scary at times....thankfully our only damage was losing our garden fence and shed....others however, not so lucky.

Take care

Used to work in Orleans House for the Royal and dine / play footy in the "Sandcastle" mate.... You're right, it's often worse there due to it being so open...

Watching aircraft trying to land at LHR on my system. 9 go-arounds so far today ( normally 15-18 a month ) Hats off to the pilots, they're earning their money today.

Those departing are going up like rockets, we've has gusts over 70mph so far.

Has a plane ever crashed on landing due solely to the wind?

Are all pilots trained to the highest level to cope with these sorts of conditions?

Fearnhead Warrington - next to where the M6 north's slip road for the M62 to Liverpool starts...
I travel the on the back roads to work from St Helens every day and today am leaving even earlier than normal (20mins) to try and avoid the worst of it.
Streets in Tellins are shut due to debris including one of the main routes through (college street)...

I dont recall a specific crash, but its highly likely. We had a 737 2 weeks ago, attempt to land and he was still airborne 2/3rds of the way down the runway, and initiated a go-around.
And a 747 leavign the runway this morning complained of "skidding round the taxiway" When Airfield Ops took a look the taxiway was clean, and they decided it was the wind blowing him around!

You can bet that the passengers aboard the planes at the moment are praying they have been.

IIRC there is a particularly nasty form of gust that can (and has) literally forced an airliner into the ground. I don't recall what its called, but runways like LHR have sensors to detect it.

LHR controller: Flight 275, some nasty winds blowing today how's that final approach coming along?

Flight 275.........*silence*

LHR controller: Well, I hope they enjoyed in in flight movie!!

same here at ema nottingham.. we had planes land and been unable to offload baggage due to the wind taking the cargo doors so it delays time

Coming in from lunch before, seen the bootlid of a Laguna estate which the wind caught when the owner was going into the boot, and it had been bent right round slammed into the roof, rear screen smashed, the bootlid was actually bent
