The News from when NL tried to clamp down!!
And I quote:-
"Gutless Tory MPs were joined by up to 47 Labour rebels as they wrecked the PM’s bid to hold terror suspects for 90 days without charge.
The vote went against Mr Blair by 322 to 291. And the limit was slashed to just 28 days by an even bigger majority of Tories — despite police warnings this could leave the nation dangerously exposed to terrorists allowed to roam free"
The TORIES sank this country for Party Political reasons!!
REMEMBER THIS WHEN YOU CAST YOUR NEXT VOTE!!!!

So, back to the top for the daytime crew .......
The TORIES opposed the NL suggestion that we lock these buggers up for longer and nail them ... for party political reasons!!
You know who to vote for!!

If the bill had gone through, all it would have meant was that the suspect spent another 62 days before being released if there was no more evidence. If there had have been more evidence, the guy would have been arrested again (or at least have a warrant put out for his arrest).
So, the Tories and rebel Labour MPs actually helped the taxpayer by not making them pay for 62 days accommodation for the suspect.

I notice you conveniently forget that we wouldn't even be in this mess if it wasn't for:
A, Tony Blair's government lying in order to get approval for an illegal invasion of a sovereign state.
B, That arrogant, blind, fcukwitted cockhound, David Blunkett opening the immigration floodgates during his time as Home Secretary.
C, The gargoyle that is Cherie Blair and her odious ilk reforming the criminal justice system to the point where the only people it works to help are the criminals.
PS: Refresh my memory Pete, which political party was it that objected to the detention without trial of IRA terror suspects in the eighties
Was it the same party that opened the H Blocks almost as soon as they came to office?
Was it the same party that appointed an admitted IRA sympathiser to the post of Northern Ireland secretary?

Pete, we're still waiting for you to explain the fact that Labour presided over higher interest rates than the Tories, despite you stating the opposite on a thread yesterday. Don't start a new argument until you have finished the last, or at least admitted that you were wrong.

You really ought to get the facts right before you start shooting off about your heros again.
Do you really think it is a healthy state of affairs when a government can lock you up for 90 days without positive proof. If it can't be proved in court that is wrong in my eyes. We cannot trust the authorities to have that kind of power. "Habeas Corpus" is a basic tenet of out law and it should stay that way for our own protection.
It is not that big a step after that to fit people up if they are a bit of a nuisance by telling the truth, to certify them insane and put them away-bit like in the USSR.
If you think that is over the top, look at what has already happened to someone who got in the way in recent times! Nothing is impossible when needs must!
I say that if you cannot prove that someone is guilty in a court of law then they must not be imprisoned.
CrispDuk gave you a very good answer about what has happened in the past for NL's convenience, you must have forgotten about all that.

I particularly like the NL idea that these people should be locked up, put on super ASBOs etc as they are dangerous.
Then they abscond, and the self-same government tells up, "Don't worry, it's not a problem they aren't a danger to anyone."
Lets have one thing or the other. That's spinning so fast it's a blurred bit of nonsense.
