Default can we stop moaning at the police...

Hey all. I have a lot of friends/family in the police, and if it wasn't for my asthma, i would be one right now. Just spare a thought for how you speak about them. I like the police and have never had anything against them.

They deal 90% with people who hate them, lie to them and try to avoid them, so they often begin any conversation/meeting, with a 'suspect' be it on the road or not, with a stern approach to get the mental one-up on the person they are talking to.

They soon soften up once they know you aren't some tosser criminal/boy racer/general arsehole, and then more often than not they are very friendly.

Police have a tough ****ing job, with **** off their bosses, then **** off us, directly becasue of their bosses orders. Reet stuck in the middle they are.

The vast majority of police are cool as ****. Sure, there are ******* in uniform, but they were ******* in school and scouts, a long time before they were police. As a bmx rider who often attracts police attention riding street, i have met millions. They have nearly all been **** on the approach, and only twice i think, have they left with the same mood. Other than them two times, they have left us appreciating what we do, respecting us and often, left with a handshake!

On here, the police get moaned at for pulling us over, then a car gets robbed and they get moaned at for not finding it, or not bothering about it, or not pulling the thief over who is driving it. Just remember, that the police on the beat are only doing what they are told.

See it as a challenge to turn a policeman with a mood, into a policeman who likes you. They are probably cool, they just aren't used to nice people anymore!

****, that was a big post. Personally, i'm not bothered if nobody replies, but i felt the need to defend the police we see everyday who are on the whole, trying there best to be good at there job.

Met millions eh? You must have met my mate then as he's been in the Bill for 30 years, I'll ask him about you.

Perhaps some of us may have had some bad experiences?
Like every other walk of life there are good ones and bad ones and we all perhaps feel that its not an easy job. But I've met some real *****. Did you see the undercover tv programme on the Leicestershire Police? Might change your overall opinion if you had.

Thats my whole point mate. I just don't think you can tar everyone with the same brush.

I have met a bigtime dick once yeah. "step out of the car...you know what you've just done, you've just won yourself 3 points..." for 'parking' on zig zag lines. (engine was on, i never left the vehicle. Had been there less than 1 minute AND the lines were extended into a lay by, which is where i was.

But thats just him. In my eyes, you should treat them all well until they give you a reason not to.

I saw a real live policeman on the street today.

If all his friends came out and joined him I'd have a huge amount of repect for them

There are good and bad everywhere, not just police.

I play golf with a few policemen, nice enough people.

The problem is we are a society of moaners, never happy, wont accept the blame or take responsibility for our own actions. This type of society is being encouraged, just look on the tv for the no win no fee solicitors who will sue whoever you like for whatever reason. We expect everything to be handed to us on a plate.

I am sure there are loads of great policemen and women out there, at the same time I am sure there are loads of total ***** working for the police.

People are good at moaning, its in our nature, get used to it.

Let's have another "intercooler" thread X30NGO !

Despite being done by the cops last month re using front fogs at night to compensate for a headlamp which had blown a few days before , I think they do a tough job pretty well for the most part.

Well i have to say this has to be a contender for stupid post of the year. We all know what your getting at and it doesn't take a genius to work out there's good and bad in all walks of life.

My best mate happens to be in CID in South yorkshire. Yes he's a good chap but if he joined 'traffic' then our friendship would end. Why? Because traffic coppers are 90% w*nkers. Little Hitlers IMHO. Eat that Bongoman

The problem for the police is that it is no longer about actual policing - in as much as using your discretion and common sense to deal with a given situation.

THis governments' obssesion with targets means that the police have to fufil a quota, people that would previously be "let off" with a word in thier shell like are now issued a fixed penalty or similar.

It the sam ein many public services. It no longe rabout people, it's about targets, so the government can say "look how well we're doing".

Lucky you. Some of us have been lied TO, lied about, and ignored when help has been asked for, amongst other problems.

Maybe if they STARTED out polite, they'd get polite back. Anyone who's rude to me for no reason, deserves the aggressive attitude I'll take with him.

How unfortunate for them. Unfortunately still further, the excuse of "having to obey orders" has NEVER cut any ice

See above comment. It cut no ice in 1945, and cuts none now.

I was arrested once in London and taken to Brixton police station, it was a genuine case of mistaken identity and I was only released after I told them I would make make a complaint(after being held for 7 hours).

It was pitch black and when I was let out there was a gang of lads opposite the side entrance, I turned round to the copper and said "which way is the nearest tube station m8?"
And he replied "Ask them NI**ERS over there!!"
so I just turned and started walking down the street when the **** shouted out after me "Thanks for your help Mr Lampshade, your information has been V/helpfull to us"

Straight off, the lads over the road, stopped what they were doing and if it wasnt for a cab passing I gurantee I would of got a properkicking that night.

Yeah, not all coppers are ******* I know but I'll make my own mind up if you dont mind

Why didn't you say "Oi lads, this copper reckons I need to ask you ni**ers the way home, what do you think?...."

Then pop and get a beer and kebab while watching the said ni**ers burn down the said police station...

Clearly someone has never tried reporting a crime to one of these lovely people.....................only to be treated like a criminal themselves, had a crime happen against them,to be told there is nothing that can be done about it.......................or indeed just be treated like a criminal from the off, just because we dare to DRIVE A CAR !!!

When they start doing the job of policing, maybe people will start to give them the benefit of the doubt

Oh,and lets not forget that that awful job they have to do,is a job they have chosen to do,and the job they get paid bloody well to do.................i wish i could get paid that well to sit in a warm station trying to decide what biscuit to dunk in my cup of tea

Gawthorpe you are the reason why coppers have a bad rep. A politically correct twerp straight out of a New Labour Academy who will prob nick a old gran for doing 33 in a 30 if it means you can get a quick lick between the chief inspectors legs. I suggest you do some real policing

It's not hard, just treat them as you would like them to treat you: a smile and a friendly word can make all the difference. If you project a bad attitude from the outset, expect the police to reciprocate.

At the very worst, you'll have to deal with one "bad egg" a couple of times a year. Remember, they see x amount of bads eggs every day. It's a pretty thankless job most of the time, so seeing someone appreciate their efforts, or at least showing a bit of humility, can make all the difference.

Just a thought: whenever you watch Police Camera Action or similar programmes, who are the ones that protest most about being pulled? Invariably it's "Pikey McChav" who it transpires has no insurance, no license, no tax etc...

Don't put yourself in their category by acting like a tosser!!

Pigs is pigs. I hate them all.

They know what they are signing up for, if they don't like it then why join.

But if you do like it then just accept the fact that you are universally hated by the public. That you can now only socialise with other police (ever noticed that when someone announces there profession at a party or such like, the atmosphere changes immediately if you are a pig) Even their only family hate them as they know they would happily nick you for any misdemeanour's

Every copper I've met in a "professional" context has been a complete and utter prize ****.

If they start treating me with some respect they might get some back.

Having said that - I know a few police officers who I've met socially and they are fine.

I guess the ones that don't marry other coppers are OK .
