Spirits.... How long do they last once opened?
Guys,
i know this is not normal and not good practice but....
how long do bottles of sprits last after opening them? I know they should be consumed on day of opening but this does not always happen!
I know a good vodka will last for years and years if not opened...
Just not sure about opened bottles...

Keep it capped, should be OK.
Alcohol is hygroscopic, (absorbs water) so it will SLOWLY absorb moisture from the air, SLIGHTLY weakening the spirit.
More important is that it can also pick up FLAVOURS from the air, impairing the drink's flavour.
As I said, keep it capped it'll be OK

I think that wine can oxidise and go off, but i think spirits are probably alright. I have had bottles of sloe gin which have been opened and have lasted a long time with no bad results at all.

the more sugar in it, the less time it will last. not too much help i know, but it's a guide!
I just taste it. If it makes me make a funny face, it's still good to drink.

Once saw an excellent email about Delia's World -v- the Real World. The last entry read:
Delia says: "If you have any left over wine at the end of a meal, you can freeze it in ice cube trays and use it to make a good stock in the future"
The Real World: Left over wine???
(And watch out for creamy drinks - Baily's etc - they are nasty when they go off! )
