Hotels in Maui

Hi, can anyone recommend anywhere to stay in Maui? Where's the best side of the island to stay- west?

Been on tripadvisor.co.uk but 99% of the reviews are done by americans. Its not that i don't trust their opinion but they have different standard

We went last summer and stayed at the Maui Coast hotel in N. Kihei. Was a nice place and just across the road fro mthe beach, however N.Kihei was a bit quiet. We went to Lahaina one night and it was much bigger and livelier, and in retrospect we should have stayed there.
