Decaf headache
I've just started trying decaf coffee (nescafe gold) and about 5mins after having it I'm getting a headache. Is this normal?
The wife mentioned today (before I said anything) that I might get a headache from it, due to caffine withdrawal. Now if I drank nothing at all, or a glass of anything else that had no caffine in it, I wouldn't get a headache, so why is drinking decaf coffee (ie something else with no cafine in) giving me the headache? is it caffine withdrawal or is there something else in the coffee?

I went through a phase of drinking tea, but had no problems. I think there is still caffine in tea isn't there?
I just can't see that it's cafine withdrawl so soon as the bl**dy stuff hasn't had a chance to go anywhere yet.

I got the same when I started drinking de-caf tea & coffee. If they got too bad, I'd have a cuppa with caf, then slowly weened off it. That's what worked for me anyway !!
Hope this helps.

Stewed tea can have more caffeine in it than coffee. It certainly sounds like withdrawal symptoms - it's quite common. Try the odd cup of green tea ( or flavored 'white' tea if you don't like green tea) - it has some caffeine in it, but no where near that of normal instant coffee. It might be enough to bring you off the caffeine a little more gently and not have the headaches

Sorry to hijack, but (this is probably a bit of a stupid question)
Do you drink green tea as it is or can you add milk to it like normal tea?
As for the coffee, I would also say it is withdrawal too if y ou have been used to drinking it regularly and suddenly stopped Same thing happened to me when I got pregnant because coffee made me sick so I couldn't drink it and had terrible headaches for a few weeks

It takes about two days to be weaned off caffiene and during that time it's very likely that you will experience headaches. The more tea, coffee, coke that you've been used to drinking the more severe the headache but drink loads of water and get through the first two days...it's really plain sailing after that
Remember though that as soon as you start to drink the caffiene loaded drinks again....you have to go through the same withdrawal process
and I don't think I can spell caffiene properly

Its more likely to be all the chemicals used in the decafination process. Steer clear. Just cut down on the normal stuff.
Drink plenty of pure water.

Green tea is not drunk with milk. The white tea I mentioned is similar to green tea - the leaves are picked before they are fully open and still covered in a white downy hair - hence the name. It has a less bitter taste than green tea and contains less caffeine - it is much rarer and normally considered better quality, so it is a little more expensive. Very good for you though - full of antitoxidants.
I thought I would give it a go, glad I asked AND got an answer or I *probably* would have put milk in it

Clipper is the brand to look out for green tea and white tea.
My pet hate is asking for green tea and getting f***ing Jasmine - yeuch!
Tea has far more caffeine in it than coffee (usually comes up every once in a while in quizzes like QI) BUT a cup of tea has very significantly less caffeine in it. Basically you use a lot less tea to make a cup of tea than coffee, and less is released in the process.

It takes a bit of getting used to, so stick with it. Don't use boiling water - you'll ruin the tea - let it go off the boil. If you want to sweeten it, use a little bit of honey, rather than horrible refined white sugar.
Clipper organic is what I normally drink (get it in most big super markets) - Taylors also do a very nice white tea now.
