Have you suddenly had a change of user for this ID?

Your spelling, punctuation and basic grammar have taken a tumble.

Current general rule of thumb - up to 42" go with LCD, over 42" go with Plasma.

37 inches is way to small for a plasma
most manufacturers stick to 42 inches and above

You'll probably get the best deal from sound and vision online.

God knows how they do it - cheaper than I can get trade!

Go have a look on "avforums". AV Forums

My own take on TV at the moment is that the great majority of programmes will be SD quality for at least the next 5 years. On that basis, I'll look for the best deal I can on 720p capable LCD or Plasma, either 37" or 42".

For the difference in price, and if you have the room, I'd go for a 42" over the 37". The best deal is whatever you can find at an actual store (not solely online retailer) whom has stock available, and then get John Lewis to price-match them to get their free 5yr warranty. Panasonic were giving it free everywhere with instore sales before Xmas but that has now expired. I wouldn't buy any flat screen without a long warranty, but would also never pay £5-600 for one either, hence why the John Lewis offer can't be sniffed at.

This place have amongst the best prices in the country for a store (in Bolton).

Just got a 42" plasma. Rather happy with it at the moment. Seems that 37", whilst smaller, is more popular (due to space constraints within rooms)......most places seemed to be out of stock of 37". 42" wasn't too bad....

Yes, 1080 PDP's are hitting the shops now, but are very expensive. I have seen a current 720p (768 actually) demo'd alongside the Pioneer 1080p and although marginally better, not enough to warrant another £3600 over my TH50PX60 Panasonic. The difference really was small and you have to be very pedantic to be able to justify it, although both were better than the LCD 1080p sets also viewed that day. You also have to consider what content you will use at 1080p. It will be many years before mainstream broadcasting is predominantly true HD, and even some HD players aren't 1080 (the cheaper of Toshiba's 2 HD-DVD players is only 720p, and the expensive one requires a firmware upgrade to earlier units to get 1080p). My advice would be to get a current 720p(768) PDP at the recent lowered prices and enjoy it for 7-10 years at least, and then think about whatever technology is best later when it's both cheaper and the content is generally available to actually get the benefit. If Toshiba/Canon ever get SED production sorted then all current LCD/PDP's will be redundant anyway. You can wait forever, you can spend ridiculous amounts, or you can just make an advised, educated decision and get on with enjoying the bloody thing.

After much market scouring I am inclined to head towards buying a 42" Pioneer plasma. Do also like the look of the Samsung but think im gonna purchase this

Dixons - Shop for LCD Panel TV - Pioneer PDP4270XD 42" High Definition Digital Plasma TV

Will I be able to get John Lewis to price match to get the 5yr warranty

My dad is thinking about that Pioneer one also. Beware though, theres 2 models, one is the 4270XD and the other is 427XD, the latter has an extra HDMI port which may make the TV a little more future proofed.

I have heard JL will price match most places, they PM Empire Direct so I think they will with Dixons also

Yep the 4270XD is the latter model with a 7th Generation screen. This replaces the 427XD which still seems to be on sale in many places.

John Lewis will do a price match apparantly but you have to wait for a week while they check it out and write to you. They will match stores, I think John Lewis' price is £1995 online, and the best i can find is the dixons one at the moment. Getting it for 1300 with a 5yr warranty would be a result!

The geeks in John Lewis didnt know about the new model and only had the old one in store.

Im sure its only got 1 HDMI tho, according to the pioneer website

They may not price-match Dixons as it is now DSG Group's internet only retailer, with Curry's digital their highstreet store. Even Curry's don't price-match Dixons They will match THIS though as it is a store (in Bolton as I mentioned earlier) but the trick is to use JL's store locator to find the nearest JL store to S&V and phone them for the price-match. When they call you back with the approved match they will give you a "price-match code", use this and call your local JL to get the same deal there

£1297! Thats a superb price, cheapest I found a couple of weeks ago was £100 more. TV prices seem to be dropping like a stone ATM!

JL should price match that with the 5 year warranty shouldn't they? Would that include delivery also or is that a bit cheeky

If the deal at S&V includes delivery (which it does, nationwide, free) then JL should too, but I wouldn't lose the deal on that.

I've been debating for a while but have been hesitant to jump in.
I think the time is close.

This is the 40 incher for me:

Sony Centres were doing deals on Bravia's with a 4yr warranty and Sony 860 DVD-R/HDD/FV just before Xmas. The JL 5yr warranty PM'd to S&V or similar would probably be the best deal now.

The JL price match is good, but over on AV Forums, there seems to be a little under-current regarding the 5yr warrantee (not very good IIRC).......

Still makes it a good deal though - Currys did mine and the warrantee was a VERY good price
