Hiya Folks

Female friend of mine just called me to say her (out of warranty) MG-F has blown up and it's languishing at the Local MG / Rover dealer who reckon it needs a whole new engine at a price of £3,500 all in. Does this sound hideously over the odds? Anyone know an independent MG-F Specialist who's worth a try or of an MG-F Scoobynet-type type site to check out?

Told her to buy an MR2 instead if she was hellbent on girly-sportscardom but do they listen?!

G.

head gasket blown is common on the F I'm afraid to say, especially VVC engine.

Some sites to check:

Thanks Greg, top Man! Is the first one your site (guess so!)? I found the MG-F BBS via Yahoo and have posted a thread there.

£3,500 for a new engine is a kick in the teeth to her as she's just got back from NY having spent a fortune!

If it's just a HGF then that wouldn't necessarily need a new engine. Only if it's been driven and over heated as a result. HGF not more common on VVC. My VVC coupe has been driven hard now for 42,000 and the HG's just fine thanks!

get a second hand engine from a breakers and get the local grage to fit it for a couple of hundred quid. be a lot cheaper than rover dealers.

(guess an engine will be 500 - 1000 and fitting 200-400)
