What sound system do I need?
Happy New Year guys!
I've decided to treat myself and want a new sound system. I have re collected most of my music on MP3, so what I want is a system that will play my MP3s, defo a radio tuner (capable of picking up pirate stations well) and perhaps a CD player. It will go into a room that will also be used as a formal reception so the speakers can be on show but not dominate the room.
I listen to a wide range of music from pop to drum 'n' bass. No fixed budget.
Any ideas?

Do you live alone, in the middle of nowhere? If not, invest in good ICE.
I have a bloody loud home system (cinema sound, all the bo11ocks) of pretty good quality, that never, ever, gets used.
But my car system, though not cheap, gets used all the time. I often go out of an evening, just cruising around, blasting the windows out. Bloody marvelous
Richard.

I've got an arcam amp & cd player & denon tuner & quad speakers (package sounds excellent) that I bought a coupla years ago. I have a Y cable (£5/£10) that plugs into mp3 player.
That's about £1,300 all in, cables, speaker wire etc.

Linn Classik is a nice one box solution - from £700 on ebay, just over a £1000 new.
Will need speakers as well.
If you have the money any Naim system will be a musical treat although you will need to find a lead to enable MP3 to drive it.

what i do is this
i have a dolby amp control unit that connects my tv/sky/dvd together. it is dolby 5.1 etc with loads of different settings, i have mission rear speakers they were £45 off ebay, the amp was around £150 off amazon or something alike and finally i had some floor speakers that are made by acoustic sounds they have tweeter and two mids, i replaced the bottom mids with some jbl gto speakers from my old car,
this system then uses the dvd to play my mp3 and you can get over 600 songs on mp3 dvd,
you set it to stereo for music and it thumps lound, then you have the advantage of the dolby for your movie viewing

Thanks. Music will be in a different room to home cinema.
I'll take a look at the Linn, but I presume I'll have to buy expensive speakers to do it justice and that might send me over on cost.
Thanks
