One of the guys at work has had his car 'cloned' and has subsequently received 5 parking tickets around London and also two speeding tickets. Although he is able to prove he is at work at these times, the police have photographic evidence of a car matching his with his number plate. They are not prepared to investigate this matter and have basically left it to him to further prove his innocence. One of the councils has taken the tax disc number when issuing the parking ticket but as yet the police have not acted upon this.
This morning he received another parking ticket for an offence on a particular road in London, this road has now cropped up 3 times, and looks like the 'cloners' possible home.
Does anybody have any ideas on how to solve this, aside from the financial cost of all the tickets and endorsements my mate is worried about this 'other' car becoming involved in a more serious incident!

Try and find the other owner...
This happened to my boss in his beemer. the police didn't care. he managed to find the owner: the owner didn't know he had a cloned car, and all was sorted in the end.

Given that the 'clone' owner has been racking up parking/speeding tickets like they're going out of fashion, I'd guess that he's well aware the car's cloned.
Hope the lad gets it sorted out tho m8.

But if we start trashing his car, he isn't half gonna get a shock when he see's its twin brother parked up next to it
Seriously though, we'll probably take mine.

Hi Disco,
Remember, It's the police's job to prove that your mate is guilty. Not your mates job to prove he's innocent.
You've already supplied the lazy bastuwards with enough evidence to prove that something is amiss. If they persist is ignoring the situation, make a formal complaint.
This sort of thing really p1sses me off. I've got a friend who has had about £4000 worth of goods bought in her name from different catalogs and old bill won't get of their fat ***** to do anything about it.

What a nightmare!
Again the police are not interested in the truth, just revinue!
I hope your mate get this sorted out.
This is a candidate for Watchdog, worth contacting the Beeb and getting it publisised, may make the poice (government) re-think their stratedgy.
The very best of luck to your mate!

Disco, a similar thing happened to my Dad's car twice a few years back. Basically the Police did not want to know. So we had to camp out and watch the car, tail it then call the cops to come and arrest the guy when he was actually in possession of the vehicle.
You will of course first need to get the cops to authenticate your car, then all they do is sit back and watch you worry about it, and spend hours, days watching your cars identical twin, until wham bang I’ve gotcha.
Whatever you do, do NOT approach the owner, chances are he knows its cloned and will probably be extremely nasty. Plus if you approach him and things get ugly, you know who will be up in court, oh yes you my friend, not the f*&^^& crook.
The law sucks 4r$e.

Disco,
Tell your mate to pop into the local divisional station closest to where the cars' picking the tickets, and speak to a UNIFORM officer from the Information Cell and tell them of the difficulties his been having, then ask them to tell the local patrolling officers to keep an eye out for it. You'll always find someone who IS interested in vehicle crime and I'm sure they'd rather be dealing with a ringer than a domestic!! Also take in the tax disc serial number as that can be traced. However, you'll probably find that the bar steward who is using the (cloned) car has probably nicked that too!!
As regarding the speeding tickets, it would be worth his time making an appearance at court (I know its time, hassle and money) Once there he can make a statement to the court on oath that there is a clone car out there, which should help him, I'm not to sure if this will help the parking tickets though. However, he SHOULD NOT ignore any notice of intended prosections, etc as he might have an early morning visit from a couple of The Queens finest.
One thought though, I once bought new car from a dealer and for a week didn't realise they'd actually transversed two figures on the plate, so there could be a genuine mistake (Yeah right I hear you scream!!!!)
Hope this helps,
Ed
