F'ing Travel Agents. Aaargh...
I'll try and keep this as brief as possible...
...about 4 months ago, booked our honeymoon for March 2007 with Thompsons. Flights and transfers etc, starting with 3 nights in a beautiful hotel in Miami (which we specified) and then a 7 night Carribean Cruise.
Got home today, fiancee in tears, she'd just had a phone call to say sorry we can no longer stay in that hotel
I ask why, she doesn't really know. Me, fuming, ring Thompsons and they say some bullsh1t about Royal Carribean haven't renewed their contract with this hotel, I'm like, WTF has that got to do with me
I try and throw as many arguments back at them as possible, but towards the end I was struggling. They say read the small print, blah blah blah.
Surely my contract is with Thompsons, and has nothing to do with whatever agreement Royal Carribean have with this hotel
They have offered another hotel in compensation, but at the moment I am going to stick out. I said this this is your mess, you sort it out, thats why im using a travel *agent* They reckon they can't even "deal" with this hotel for me. Surely they can "deal" with anyone
Anyone in the trade / legal proffesion know where I stand ?
Many Thanks
ps, this may seem like a little issue to some, but it took ages to find this package, and even though its only 3 nights stay, we've both got our hearts set on this hotel.

Sorry but as they said - read the small print. basically by giving you the notice they have they are allowing you 2 options
Get your money back and book elsewhere.
Accept the replacement hotel which only has to be of similar or greater standard to the one you had picked.
The problem is with the cruise company but what would be worth trying is getting the best hotel the cruise company deals with in Miami for no extra cost.
Hope this helps.

Cut your losses and accept a new hotel.
Now you've learnt your lesson not to use travel agents. The profession died out years ago and they are glorified call centre workers now. You have the same access to tools on the internet to book everything yourself these days.

make sure you check the pillows on your bed for needles or pins as a recent stay in the hilton in hurgada egypt we came across a pin once it had stabbed my brother in the head the hotel wasnt that **** and offered a bottle of wine or 15 quid!!!!! we took photos and informed the rep to which she came out 2 days later had a look and we're now taking it up with thompsons the rep was as good as a chocolate fire guard so beware
p.s ask for a better hotel if you can as it is your honeymoon

Thanks for all your replies Looks like I'm screwwed then
If I book directly with this hotel, would I be within my rights to get reffunded exactly what it will cost me from Thompsons ?

Plus compensation for stress. Don't forget, where there's a blame, there's a claim

Cancel it and either find a better company or do it yourself independently.
In this day and age of internet booking for almost everything I really do fail to see why people dont just cut out the middle man and agent commision and do it themselves.
