Default Freeview in the bedroom

I found my old Amstrad Sky box upstairs after having Sky + for many years. What would I need to do to get Freeview out of it for the bedroom.

Do I need an indoor digital aerial, as I just have a standard indoor aerial at the moment?

Is it the dish input connection thats used or the RF input?

It has the two card slots as well so do I need a card for Freeview?

I'm not interested in multiroom as I have Sky + already, just want a decent Freeview picture for the bedroom.

Craig.

I don't want to go anywhere near the dish as its at the other end of the house . I just want a quick fix to get Freeview in the bedroom so the dish is not an option, so I assume I need a indoor digital aerial. I don't know how many outputs the dish has because two are taken up with Sky + anyway.

I'm just after a stand-alone system for the bedroom, not connected to downstairs. Where do you get the freeview cards from?

You could just plug it in and see if it works.

EDIT: I mis-read the original post, didn't realise the box was an old sky one. pls ignore.

Craig, if it's a Sky box then as far as I understand it needs to be connected to a dish to get a signal. It won't pick up DTT which is on a completely different frequency band. I don't think it needs a card to receive free to air channels, though I'm not certain. I can check if you like...

If it's an old analogue sky box, it won't be able to receive digital channels. Also I think Sky charge for provision of a 'free'view card. And yes, it will need to be connected to your chimney wok in order to receive a signal.

Why not run a normal RF lead from the #2 RF output of your sky+ box to your bedroom telly and get one of those £15 remote sky thingy's from Argos (cat no 534/3250 plus another £15 for a spare remote handset if you don't want to cart the one you have around the house). You can then have all your sky channels upstairs. Works a treat in my home.
