I've had my Tag watch for 5 years now, its been for repair 3 times, twice for poor time keeping (gaining 5 minutes a day )
and once for the pip falling off the bezel , not good for the money, and my old Casio's going strong after 8 years still.!!
I've been looking at Breitling's and need to treat myself
Just wondered if anyones got one and had any problems with it.
Cheers

John,
there was an epic tread about watches just over a year ago, which will probably answer all of your questions.

I bought one in Northern Thailand 2 years ago - hasn't lost any time since I bought it - just as well as I didn't get the warranty with it !. Cost me about £30 - it was a new model back then, spend the rest of the cost of a real one on a good 2 week holiday in the jungle. I'm amazed at the quality of the thing - it's obviously a pretty good factory where they cobble these things together.

for my 18th birthday, my now late dad and my mum bought me a breitling aerospace, it is lovely - not to sure on the model, but has a chronograph on it, anmd the face of the watch is a darkish grey... had it now for 3years (so that makes me 21 ) it has been fine, only thing was that i needed the baterey changed, but that was free of charge, as it has a lifetime warranty - which is sound i know my parents paid a lot of money for it, so it aint cheap!

Breitling are fine if you have the money....
You do pay a BIG premium for the name.....
Omega are much better, value for money wise.
BTW I am a qualified horologist (watchmaker) so I know what I am talking about (mostly )

Just another thought.
If you want a good day-to-day watch, then buy the best you can afford, but ignore the "designer names" not worth the metal they are made from (IMHO)
Swiss are far better than Japanese for the high grade end of the market.
Mechanical will have a much longer life span than quartz, but will rarely (if ever) keep as good time (at any price), i.e. a cheap digital from a garage will probably keep as accurate time as a rolex.
And while talking about Rolex, they will last a lifetime, they are good quality, but you will pay a large premium for the name and you will pay a lot if (when) it needs service or repair.
What watch do I wear???
If you want to know..... I have a few, an Omega that I use for "going out", a Tissot a Swatch and a Citizen that I wear daily (but not at the same time

That thread was good.
Also have a look here www.timezone.com
Loads of boards for each brand and a lot of opinion, but good reviews and stuff as well.
Agree with much that has been said.
You will pay a premium for Rolex, Breitling, Omega etc, but you do get quality. You also pay a premium for cartier/boss/whatever, but there you are really just buying the name.
By the way, AFAIK, only Rolex, Zenith and Seiko manufacture their own mechanical movements. Omega, Breiling, etc, buy in and rework generic movements.
Ok, and a properly regulated quality mechanical movement will be accurate to + or - 5 seconds per week, if not better.
Hope this helps

Didn't realise Breitling was such a blue chip name. I got one (in a box, so it probably wasn't stolen) from a street trader 3 years ago for 20 quid. I have today realised it must be counterfiet. Haven't reset the time since. Still within 30 seconds of teletext time. Quite good for a counterfiet version. With quality like that the makers should build up their own brand image instead

I have a Breitling, bought after my epic watch thread! !
Really pleased with it and have had it a year.
HOWEVER, the bezel has come loose and was repaired under warranty, admittedly very quickly and they sent me a groovy case.
I think they are quite discreet and I wear mine (Superocean Pro) every day.
Cheers,
Mossman

It was the Daytona cosmographs that had Zenith movements in them up until last year, when Rolex introduced their own movements.
Still quality gear, thats for sure. In fact, rumour has it the Zenith movement watches will be more valuable with time.
No one has mentioned residuals yet - Rolex residuals make cars look lile a joke

Having ""Explored " the Fake watch market. I would reccomend a good copy. I have a "Rolex Submariner". It has a "ETA" movement and is a excellent copy. It is stamped and has proper screw pins in the bracelet. it might loose about 2.min a week. Some of the copies are pure "Krap" but buy a good one for about $60 and it will last you for ever. I know many people who "Think" their watch is genuine !!!!!!!!
Ask the Navy how many "Rolexes" they return due to failure.....
If i was really going to spend .I would buy a second hand "Tudor" or "IWC" pure class.
BUT DO NOT BUY "COPIES"ON THE INTERNET FROM THE STATES. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED......

Agree that you shouldnt buy a designer name, although I was aware that they did buy in decent swiss movements.
My personal favourites are jaeger le coutre, their cheapest watch is also my favourite, the master ultra slim at £1800ish pounds, mechanical and very very thin.
Aside from that am a fan of audermars piguet, and pateke philippe. I have always seen rolex as an expensive watch that people who dont know about watches would buy because they think it is great, eg lottery winners.
More research yields some much better makes afa I am concerned.

Bought my dad a brietling watch for his 50th. He's just turned 55 and never had any probs with the watch.
He owns a few pubs so it's not unknown for him to be shifting kegs, crates of beer, etc.. And you guessed it, he doesn't take his watch off. Looks like they can stand up to some heavy use which doesn't help my heart rate given how much it cost.
Now, if you really want a cool watch then get yourself one of these like me.

It's the very last one BTW.
