One for the Divers (not muff)
Looking to purchase my first dive computer & spend about 200 notes.
I'm typically a warm water diver, not liking the chillyness if the UK shores.
I don't own a regulator, so a "watch" would be the bext format rather than having one hooked onto the tank.
I'm looking at:
SUNNTO: Mosquito, Vyper or Gekko.
Can you give opinions on the above.
Ta
/edit for correctness

Daz34 picked mine for me - an apeks quantum - pretty much identical to the vyper (apparently) but a bit cheaper.
Used it a few times no problem at all very easy to use, especially for a girl

Got the Alladin Pro Ultra Nitrox myself. Used if for about 80 dives and well pleased with it.
When you say watch, do you mean one that looks like a watch or a computer that is wrist mount ?
I think every diver will have their own preference but if you can, see if you can try a couple of different models.
Also consider ease of use underwater possibly when wearing gloves.
Good luck in your search

Don't like the watch style ones myself.
They are too big to be a watch and too small to be a dive computer.
Make sure it is Nitrox compatible and also has a user replacable battery.
Stay away from the Apeks Quantum though. They are ****e

Aladin Pro Ultra is what I have, never gone wrong, always worked, bent it twice
Serviced once and they put a new screen on as it was a bit scratched for free !!
Battery is now about 55% after 6 years and 500 odd dives.
Pretty sure it saves 200 odd dives in it's memory as well.
Also with the right extra's (memo mouse) you can download all your dives to a PC and make a really good looking dive log with a graph of your dive as well as all the times and depths etc filled out for you.
The display is clear, easy to understand, no fiddly buttons to press like the watch type ones, just touch pads. and they work with gloves on (not that you need that being a warm water *****
and does nitrox mixes up to 50% for WHEN you get into that.
Oh and Nitrox doesn't let you go deeper, just stay down there longer.

hehe, don't believe the hype.
the stinger is a Vyper in a small box
I presume you're a holiday diver like most of us?
that being the case, most people will be using a Vyper or Suunto derivative.
at 30msw, you want to be able to read your buddy's computer and they yours.
it's just like a Golf GTi series 2, does what it says on the tin.
If you're going to go tec and mixed gases, the Vytec is the one - comes from an instructor with 000s of dives who firmly believes there's nothing interesting to look at above 60msw lol

Totally agree with you comments about the Aladin and the memo mouse. Great bit of kit. I have now changed from the original dive trak software to Wlog
Homepage Thomas Temesvari Software
If using memo mouse you still transfer data via data trak but you can open your log book file with this software. It has extra features including a running total of total dive time to date plus extra boxes for recording info.
A trial version is available from the site to see if you like it.

Cheers Rob, I was wondering only the other day if there was something better than DataTrak out there as that program's beginning to look a little clunky in this day and age.
Will be having a look at that after tea.
