If you were looking to buy the plate, I'm sure a plate broker would be able to help you. If you thought the owner of the plate was a serial killer, I'm sure the police would help you. If you want to go round and give the bloke a slap for cutting you up earlier this afternoon, you're probably out of luck!

The nice people at DVLA hand this info out for £2.50 a go, The petrol station I work in uses this service for people that 'foget' to pay for the fuel.......
Not sure if its a service open to the public though and how you would justify it.

yes.... this is so easy too mind you for the best results follow these simple bits of guidance;
1. wait until car is stationary ( both for safety reasons and to ensure a steady hand)
2. make sure your pencil is sharp and preferably an HB grade or softer.
3. hold tracing paper securely by attaching sheet in place using masking tape
4. try poking your toungue out slightly between your lips, as personally i find this a great aid to concentration
go for it my dear chap and the result should be quite good.

The best bet would be to contact the DVLAand ask them about the service. I have never done it personally, just passed everything onto the office people to do. Apparently it takes a few days for them to get back to you so I guss they send it via post.

Ffs! The Data Protection Act absolutely forbids the release of personal data for the purposes that people are describing here. Do you really think that you can find out where someone lives for £2:50 and then mither them to sell you something? Be serious. The only way that a private individual can obtain keeper details are if he shows good cause. If the person crashed into you you have good cause; if you like their cherished number then you have no chance; and rightly so.

GC8 - Wind your neck in....
If you read my first post I said It's a service used by some Petrol stations to obtain details of cars that drive off without paying for fuel and I was not sure if it was available to the public.

dvla have been handing out our details for years to anyone who rings up wanting to contact the owner of a vehicle parked on their land. As far as I know no checks as to whether the vehicle is actually parked on the land or not are carried out.
