can you lay a fridge freezer down to transport?

Not wise - you should always transport a fridge or freezer in an upright position. In any other position you. may damage the compressor and it may never work properly again.

Of course you can, just leave a minimum of 12 hours back upright before switching back on to allow the gas to settle. I used to work for Curry's when I was 14 and I've moved hundreds with no issues.

It's not advisable, but give it plenty of time to settle and make sure it doesn't get tipped past 90 degrees as any pooled oil in the pipes will go round the U- bends and not run back to pump when you return it upright.

As above, I thought you could do whatever you wanted with them so long as you leave them upright for 12/24 hrs afterwards before turning them on.
(Note that I am not liable for any fridge damage that may occur if you follow this advice )
