What's the penalty for having no valid tax disk?
Was going to the PO tomorrow to get my new tax disk but having turned the house upside down, i can't find my current mot certificate. I'm gonna apply online for the tax instead but i'm guessing i won't recieve the disk till maybe the 4th of december. What will i get if i'm caught driving without the tax disk?

If you're caught, the police will issue a report to the DVLA and you'll get a £30-40 fine. Careful if the car's left parked up anywhere - parking attendants can issue fixed penalty fines for no tax too.
It's not like you had 6-12 months to think about it, is it?

How about this one then. My tax expires tomorrow night and I've just realised the car isnt registered to me yet.
The previous owner must never have sent the v5 off and i cant find my green slip bit now. Its too late to fanny about with the v62? and pay 20 quid for the privilage (takes 4-6 weeks for them to write to current registered owner to confirm sale). The car had 6 months tax recently bought when i picked it up so its obviously slipped my mind.
How can I go about this one ppl? Trip to the local DVLA offices perhaps?

only real problem i can see is that if local authourty see it parked up somewhere with no tax, they can get it removed to compound, which will cost you probably at least a couple of hundred. police don't really do much trust me i know unless they see many other things wrong with it

Maybe contact the previous owner. If they have not changed the log book then they should have been sent the reminder which you could possibly use. (at this stage remind them they have comminted an offence by not notifying the dvla)

I bought ours on-line and it took just 2 days to arrive. Can't fault the process!
After I had ordered it I was worried that it might be sent via recorded delivery so it would have meant another trip to the post office to collect (it as we would have been out) which kind of defeated the whole process of buying on-line. It just came in the normal post so I needent have worried.

the other option was the v62 like you say, but I don't think that you will have to wait to tax the car.. (but i stand to be corrected)
