A long weekend in Dubai coming up - what are the shopping bargains / scams to look out for over there?

jewellery, all sorts of diamonds, gold and platinum are very cheap, luxury accessories can be quite a bit cheaper than in the UK. A rolex?

Other goods, such as clothing, I found to be as expensive as the UK.

Don't like Rolex - I'm a Tag man - and already got several of those.

I came back from there on Saturday. My wife has 6 nephews and nieces she buys presents for every time we go away. She managed to find 6 singing camels in a Souk near the Spice Souk, which cost 25 dirhams for all 6. We found the same product in the airport ofr 35 dirhams each. There are around 6.8 Dirham to the pound at present.

Gold is cheap as long as you don't usually shop in Argos, the people behind us on the plane reckoned it was cheaper in Argos!

Spices etc are cheap in the Spice Souk.

I haven't been through Dubai for a good while now. Can you look at the Rolex prices for me? Might be going over there soon and want to know if it's worth getting one there instead of here.

I've often thought of Dubai as the sort of place where Argos jewellry wearing people would go. A place lacking in real class, it's all built on new wealth and is kitschy and showy.

There's plenty of booze in the Hotels. Not only that whilst we were there there was an article in the local paper stating that a number of local hotels had been raided and a number of single women who appeared to have no real purpose for being there were taken away for questioning about prostitution!

I doubt it, electrical stuff didn't seam any cheaper at all. I priced up a couple of watches and found that I could get them cheaper in the airport, looked to be a good saving on UK price as well.
