Storage heaters ??
What's the deal with these. Just moved into a flat that has them I've been mooching about on the net, and understand best way to run them is high input with low output during the day. Then when home turn the output up ??
One, possibly far to technical question is, how does the heater know what time is midnight to start charging up the bricks ?? Reason I ask is I want to know mine are working to their fullest, but how are you supposed to tell ??
All help greatly appreciated.

They run from economy seven .... basically at a preset time your low cost night time electricity turns on and starts charging your heaters

They keep the flat warm when you're out then cool down just when you get home .
They usually have a boost on them at some point during the day.
As far as I can remember they run on a separate circuit from the rest of the house and it's turned on/off by that circuit.
I've had two flats in the past that have had them and have replaced them both times with Gas - and saved heaps of £££££.
They're only really worth it if you stay in all day - or you have cats and want to keep them warm .

And keep an eye on the weather forecast......I can guarantee that the flat will be like a sauna when it boiling outside and like an igloo when there's 4 inches snow!!
I never did get the hang of them (and gas wasn't an option)!!!

nah gas not an option.
I was just wondering how the storage heater knew it was midnight and time to charge up !!
Will play with the settings and see what works.
Thanks anyway.

Horse it up to full blast overnight and turn it down when you get up in the morning.
That's about the sum of the "Total control" they used to mention on the Adverts. As for Total Heating - I guess that refers to heating everybody above you .

My brother had them in his old house - never got them to work properly. i.e. at all! well, as has been said above, no real way to have the heating you wanted when you wanted it! they are just metal cases around a load of bricks at the end of the day.

Got them and hate them - I'm replacing them with 400kw slim panel heaters that are simply on/off. Sure it'll be a big chilly when we first get in but with a few of them switched on it'll soon warm up and the livingroom will have a centre piece 2kw electric fire with a fan to circulate the air

I use them and find them excellent for the house. Charge at night and as I'm at home all day I get the benefit. In the evening just open up the vents to let the residual heat out.
Just have to be on the ball with the weather forecast/temperatures to turn them up or down as required. If the forecast messes up and the house is cold just turn the Calor gas heater on...........Sorted

Had them in the flat, coudlnt get the hang of them
Never felt really warm either. Ended up having a calor gas heater in the main room.
1st year had 1 in the hall 1 in the bedroom and 1 in the living room on.
3 months electric bill over xmas £160.00
2nd year just had the 1 in the living room on £60.00 much better.
Just getting rid of the electric fire iv got in my house for a gas one. Previous owner took the gas fire out

I reckon your panel heaters are 400W each. If they're 400kW then you might be looking at some fairly hefty electricity bills
