Default Nationwide customers - astonishing revelation!

Astonishing revelation this morning by Nationwide this morning that a laptop was stolen with customer details of all 11million customers!!!!

They claim no passwords, but it does include names, address, account balances and possibly dates of birth.

Easy to create false identities though from what was stolen, and having been the victim of identity theft twice now it can take months if not years to find out that you are screwed!

Oh, and the most amazing bit is that this was revealed this morning and it happened three months ago!

Nationwide in trouble

ID theft is the biggest growing crime in the UK right now!

I work for an on-site shredding company and see customers all day long that dont respect the security of customers details. The Data Protection Act is a joke in some respects. I dont know a single company thats been fined over leaking customer details.

The maximum fine is a massive £5000. WOW!!! A jail term for directors, like thats ever gonna happen.

This country needs a proper law, with proper punishments. On the spot fines for any company who allows a leak of info.

Move your accounts to another bank immediately to reward them for their unacceptable service.

First direct are highly rated by those in the know

I'm a nationwide customer, nervous now that I have read the article. Wondering whether I should write to them to see what sort of protection and guarantees they offer?

Default Nationwide

Found this on Nationwide website
Nationwide Building Society - Security - News and alerts
They seem to have promised to cover any losses due as a rewsult of fraud.
They should not carry persoanl customer details on laptop, poor security.
If it is it should be encrypted and password protected.
I need a 15 character password to access my pc in work.

You might get lower rates or some fancy "packaging"....I guess I should have expanded.

.....what about over paying and ending the mortgage early? In my experience Northern Crock have not been competitive in this area.

In my experience Nationwide offer the best no gimmicks rates.

Missus' online Nationwide account was hacked recently. Probably a key logger programme - but theyu didnt give a damn how or who or how it could be stopped next time.
