If you look in your control panel you can see approvals I think.

Spot on Paul.
You see whether it was a positive (green), negative (red) or grey (indicates the user who rated you does not have any reputation power at present, thus the rating will not effect your reputation) rating, a link to the post that was rated, the time it was rated, and, optionally, a comment from the person who rated the post.
What you do not see is the user who rated you, unless I'm missing something.

How odd. Can you add to your OWN reputation?

If it's going to be difficult to find, and take more than a click or two to do, will only those wishing to rubbish someone do it?

After all, how many letters do shops etc get about GOOD service?

Agreed, but human nature is more into complaining, so useful posts will get a "thanks" in the next one, but posts someone disagrees with will get their reputation lowered.

It'll settle, it's a new feature, but has been in place on sites like Slashdot for years to good effect.

Matt,
Have a look on the thread that SJ_Skline references, as Simon does make reference to this, as some of the multi-id types were giving each other a positive rating.

Good point there about /. Hmm, meta-moderation, now there's an idea! (being slightly serious too)

A few other things I've noticed:

If you go into your User CP and look at the reputation box (if you don't have one then you don't have any positive or negative reputation) then you'll see not only what posts have been "rated" but also, in the top right of the box, your current reputation points.

If you have a reputation entry, it'll show the post that was rated, click on it and it'll take you to that post. now, if you click on the reputation icon under your name for that post it will tell you what your reputation is for that post, the pos or neg reputation given to you for that post, plus the total number of reputation points you have.

When someone signs up to this sight they are asked if a user on here had recommended it to them and they put the username of that person in. That number just shows how many people.

Apparently I already have a pile of reputation points and I can't see anything about them anywhere! How does that work?
