"Most vehicles that will be charged £25, in vehicle excise duty band G, are high-priced models," the mayor said.
"Those who buy them can afford to choose from pretty much the whole of the mainstream car market but have chosen to buy one of the most polluting vehicles.
"By making these changes to the congestion charging scheme we are encouraging people to take into account the impact of their choice of new car on the environment and the planet."
He's got a point.

I feel sorry for the people near us who have one of these:

"Mr Livingstone also announced that a 90% residents'
discount given to people living within the congestion
charging zone will be withdrawn for vehicles in band G."

He's a liability - the congestion charge was supposed to ease congestion not make money. Because it worked so well and traffic levels drastically reduced they've not only had to increase the charge but have also jumped on the green bandwagen.
Large polluting vehicles (buses) aren't taxed heavily enough.
Cars on the other hand are taxed according to emissions already with the VED and double taxed again at the pumps.
Just a soft target to get another couple of quid in the coffers. WNKRS

Those that can afford to live in central London and drive something like a Cayenne aren't going to be hit in the pocket by paying even more and it won't put them off. It's just more revenue-raising.

So for the those moaning about 4x4's, and thinking this new charge is a good thing, think what this sort of crap will lead to!!
Jonny Rich in his Cayenne won't give a **** about £25 a day, and the gov't will think this is positive, so they will move on to cars with xxxbhp, and so on until it hits us all.

Although the anti-4x4 brigade see this as a victory they won't be half as smug when their 2-litre diesels have to pay the 25 quid too...

Those with 2.0 diesel family saloons are OK, even the Mondeo Auto.
Mondeo TDCi 115 EU3 148g/km so Band C
Mondeo TDCi 130 EU4 154g/km so Band D
Mondeo TDCi 130 Auto 196g/km so Band F
Even the ST 2.2 TDCi falls in Band D.
Only the V6 petrol Mondeos fall in band G
Cheers

Ken's supporters with their elderly, smokey old E-class Mercs and 530 BMs aren't going to like this... There'll be trouble in da hood, I tell you.
Oh, and my M5 and my wife's Celica both go into Band G as well. Nice.
