Default Home Cinema Kit Colours.....

Im about to build an HTPC using a Silverstone chassis. All of my audio kit is black; my AV receiver is silver though (and my display is silver, black and glass). Most Silverstone chassis are available in both black and silver and I am unsure what colour to go for..... Im the first to criticise people who start pointless gushing "what colour car should I order" threads, but: what colour should I order?

I would be interested to hear peoples opinions about black Vs. silver and particularly about which colour will be the more popular (I have noticed that an increasing number of AV receivers are now available in black again...).

I think black sounds best, but it also depends on the rest of the room really.

Pics would be nice

I did not have a choice. The Mrs made me cover it all up! Looks nice but not a cheap option..

Black or silver doesn't matter ... as long as you avoid that ghey off-gold that was available not so long back

I've got a mix. Amp + dvd is the de rigeur black , but the tivo only came in silver .... vcr is about to be binned.

Mark .. denon amp on -27 .. are you deaf ??

Hey Simon, I ordered a Silverstone LC14M in silver earlier this week.

Nice cases, I don't think there is any other brand of HTPC or PC case that comes close in quality and design finish, although its not cheap. Should arrive early next week with any luck.

I'm still iffing ar arring if silver was the right choice, as my all my Technics separates are black, yet all my TV gear is silver. But the idea of the HTPC is to be able bin most of the current stuff.....Problem is the only A/V amp for domestic use that has no pre-amp and some decent oomph is the NAD 6/12 channel power amps, and they only come in black

I think that black looks smarter Ali; but I wonder whether silver will blend in better, my current Sony amplifier is silver too. I was tempted by the LC16M but unlike the 14M its RC isnt compatible with MCE. I think that Im going for an LC17C (with a card reader its the same price as without so...) but the LC20 is in the runing too. I might regret not getting a chassis with a VFID but theyre a nightmare to configure..... I was briefly tempted by the LC18 but the price is ridiculous. Its an LC17 with a 7" WXGA touch screen display but at nearly £500 its about twice as dear as it should be.

Are you buying the LC14M from Scan in Coventry? They seem to be the cheapest at £141.

I was toying between the LC20 and LC14. The LC20 has more gubbin's behind the flaps, so to speak, and it'll take a 3.5inch floppy as well as a pair 5inchers. So it was a case of features vs. fashion. And as nice it is to have big flaps covering things up, they can get in the way.

Mines from xcase.co.uk, its about the same price, although their site doesn't have it listed they can still source it

I'm a black man myself. When it comes to AV gear anyway.

By the look of the new gear coming out, especially the HD gear, it looks like black is the new silver.

Just got to get rid of the crappy silver Sky+160 box and replace it with the new black Sky HD box.

Black doesn't reflect the light from the screen either, better for watching movies in the dark.

Cheers
Lee

Are you still talking about HT kit there...?

The reason that Im still half-considering the LC20, is that I can add a VFID to it later if need be. With the LC17 I will be stuck and it doesnt have exposed half height 5 3/4" drive bays to add one into either.

That's putting it somewhat mildly. You ought to be utterly ashamed of your hypocrisy.

Come along, you know that it isnt the same. Firstly you cant show off about a £75 metal box; and secondly, Im asking people what colour, in their opinion, will be the most popular (in terms of kit available, not preference). I think that itll be black, but there are a lot of people here with a far greater interest/knowledge in/of home cinema than I have.

Now; about my dinner this evening.....?

That's only the small window, there is a bigger window on the rear wall for light.

Dolby signs are common, the DTS sign takes a bit more sourcing.

What about the Starwars film cells or the 40"X50" framed movie posters on the other walls that you can't see? It is a HC room after all.

Cheers

Another thing that worried me is that when looking at some high-res pics in the reviews, the flaps seemed a slightly different colour to the facia on both the black and silver models. And as somone once told me - if the flaps look a little off colour....

Also I noticed on some reviews that the case on some of the black models was more of a charcoal grey, whilst the facia was black, which was pushed me more towards the silver.

The strip across the front is white-ish, the rest of my box is silver.

The new HD box looks so much better in black with a bit of silver. I'll have it in when it drops below £300 installed.

I'm thinking black in that particular model

See what I mean about the flaps:

I wonder what mine will be like?

edit - fixed the link for the black flaps
