OK chaps,

Bought the "Half Life - Generation" game at the weekend. Installed them all (Half life, Opposing Force, Counter Strike), Installed the patches (thanks Barry )) spent many hours playing Halflife , now onto Counter Strike....

I've played the training mission, how do I play on-line? I assume there are no stand-alone missions for CS? When I selected "Play CS" from the menu, it gave some map error.. Will it only play when connected to a CS server? How do I connect to it and join you all?

Any help appreciated...

Tell us exactly what the error says.

Is it to do with Survivor? Snow_sprites or such.

I wrote on the CD case you'll need to d/l a fix to that 1003.exe, which believe i tor not, they left a couple of vital things out!!!

The download is very small compared to the stuff on the CD so you can do that manually.

When you press play CS then it should take you to the next menu where you get various choices and you want "internet games". It then connects and validates your WON ID which is done evry time you logon, but you don't need to do anything.

Then you "add new server" and put in the IP address of Mike B's server which is on another thread, I'll look for it in a mo.

You can then play any of us who are ther, or run round and familiarise yoourself with empty maps.

Visit Cyborg2.net there are some "beginners" servers on there you can join too.

The beauty of this addiction is that apart from any phone bill you might get, the rest is free!!

You can also download some bots, although they become predictive it will allow you to get use to the maps and where on the body to shoot etc... it is quite good for developing your reactions if you set the bot skill to maximum as they shoot you dead as soon as they see you!

get gamespy. v useful. can use it to store your list of favourite servers...incl the Barrys World ones we use for our sessions.

its more user friendly than the inbuilt server listing in HL/CS.

as bazza says....let us have the actual error message and hopefully we'll be able to point u in the right direction.

i'll be online from around 6:30/7 tonite so icq me if u want on 3147057.

Barry, no, it's not the sprite error you mentioned on the CD you sent. I didn't download the other patch. Maybe this is the problem..?

I've just loaded it onto my laptop (for purely technical reasons ) and the error is...

"map change failed 'c0a0' not found on server"

I've looked at the Counter-Strike.net web site and can not see the additional patch I need. It only gives the 1003 that you sent on disk...

wot map r u trying to load ? are u connected the net when this happens ?

also try www.barrysworld.com or www.jolt.co.uk

both of these sites should have the necessary files.

No, I was not on the net when I got this message. From what others have said here, I should be able to play a few map by miself..

I looked at Barrysworld and there are some other patchs I neet too from the looks of it. I'll do this now and then let you know what happens later tonight. Should be able to post about 7:30 - 8:00ish.

I've downloaded GameSpy and ICQ and will install these tonight on my home PC. Hopefully I can get on-line tonight and give it a go. My 3 month old daughter had her jabs yesterday, so she's not feeling too well. If she's not well later you'll know why I'm not on-line.

Otherwise, once I'm setup I'll contact you via ICQ. I've got your numbers from the other posts, so you can talk me though getting going..
