Default Amish

Apparently the Amish shun technology but how do they decide where to draw the line? They use the wheel and horse drawn buggies which were once the height of new fangled engineering. Why aren't they living in caves dressed in animal skins? Do they have a date which if something was invented after that they can't use it?

**** taking aside, how do you tell 12 parents from a quiet peace loving community that 4 of their daughters have been executed, and the remaining 8 are critically injured.

Lets see what the NRA and Charlton have to say this time.

Same as every other time 'From my cold dead hands'.

The gun situation in the US is way out of control, but then again it always has been, it isnt going to change now, the place is to big, there are too many guns and idiots like the NRA.

The right to bear arms, that worked in frontier times but now its as current as covered wagons except for the fact that people feel the need because others do. One thing our government got right, I do feel some sympathy for those responsible gun owners that lost a hobby but not as much as for the parents of sixteen small children in Scotland.

At least, by and large over here its just the daft little wannabe 50 cents shooting each other.

The Amish have their own set of values and as far as I know they don't bother others with their philosophy. Don't see the point of veiled criticism of their way of life.

I think Notorious Rev had a good point Les, dont think he was really having a pop at these peaceful and decent people but it is something I have pondered, I suspect they just hark back to what their ancestors did at the time they came to America and thats the point where they have stayed, stuck in sixteen o plonk, some of them do use electricity but I suspect that they arent allowed to enjoy it.

Anyway, whatever we say its not like they are going to read it is it ?

I think perhaps we could take a few lessons from the Amish, the dignity in the ay they deal with matters is astounding.

Absolutely. I wish we had their sense of community (read about barn raising for an excellent example). Just wondered how they came to be how they are.

To be fair, I've actually spent some time doing some research on the net and have learned a fair bit. They do use newer technology but only if it's beneficial to their lifestyle. They rejected electricity as they felt it would connect them to the outside world which is something they don't want.

> The right to bear arms

All this sh*t over a misprint. The constitution was meant to be about the right to wear tee shirts but some fool mispelt "bare arms" and we are where we are.
