Minidisc - what happened to it?
Just swapped over the head unit in my new run about for an old Sony minidisc player I had in the loft that I had taken out of my scoob when I bought it years ago. Had some old discs so put them in and had some excellent tunes on them and were still in perfect quality.
What happened to the minidsc format? Why did it fail so miserably? MP3 players kill it off?
p.s. anyone got a personal minidisc player/recorder they don't want anymore?

MD is still the media of choice for DJs jingles etc or people doing sound effect in theatres and so on. Not sure if there's any domestic MD player sales to speak of now though, I'd suspect you're right that MP3 killed it - MP3 headunit in my car as the capacity is so much greater than MD.
I still use my trusty old personal MD player though - Sony MZR91 I think it is. Still going strong at ~8 years old - I wonder how many ipod owners will be able to say that in a few years time! The original battery is knackered but it has an add-on compartment that you can stick an AA into and it'll last over 20 hours with a 2000mAh NI-MH cell. I've wondered about getting a personal MP3 player but they all seem to be a compromise (either rubbish battery life and/or cell life span, fragility, lack of compatibility etc). The MD still does everything right except for the need to carry around the disks and the fact MP3 or WMA recorded onto MD sound horrendous (mine pre-dates the NetMD interface which I assume must have helped that matter).
