It's just a rumour that I've been hearing that it's some sort of secret signal or badge of support for certain goings-on.

I heard a rumour today that it was showing support for terrorism and the overthrow of the British way of life.

I stress that this is just a rumour I heard, I've not actually witnessed the kind of thing I'm asking about.

Ok, just for you, it signifies that the taxi (even though it may appear to be a totally standard Toyota Avensis or Nissan Primera) has a cosworth-built 2.5-litre subaru engine in it, kicking out 450 bhp.
