I tried that winter pike mullarkey once, and nearly did a captain oates
Static fishing is good in the summer, but in winter the cold inactivity of waiting for a bite isn't outweighed by a catch...takes the fun out of it.
Canal in summer, light 8ft rod, abu baitcaster with braid & lures is where it's at It's a bit like fly fishing but you don't need to be an uppercrust ponce to do it.

i think it's carp, but a guy thru work fishes. just came back from a trip to france and he caught a 48lb one and two others a little bit smaller.
not my bag fishing, but the size of this thing was very impressive and you could see he was very chuffed with the catch.
if i heard him right, the largest one caught is about 200lb?

The trick with pike is not to let them get their head out of the water, right till it's on the net & too tired to do anything..
This however is boring. :zzzz:
Get it soundly hooked, ease it up quick as poss, then engage 'jet-ski' mode

The current world record stands at 86lb, but that's for the carp we all know.
Carp over 100lb are caught in the Mekong along with the illustrious catfish.

LOL, must start listening when people talk to me to avoid confusion
yep, got catfish and carp all confused his biggest was a 41 1/2lb beastie, along with a couple just under 40lb.
he's not a small guy and he was struggling to carry this thing, **** knows what an 86lb monster looks like!!
