Can anyone value a Grand Piano?
Hi there,
My mum's selling her house and she's got a grand piano that seems to have been there from when the house was built. It's a Chappell in good condition and the serial number seems to date it around 1865-ish.
Anyone have an idea what its worth, or how i could find out its value without being ripped off?
Cheers,
Chris

Not much, I'm afraid
Pianos, particularly grand pianos unless a swanky brand - bechstein etc, are usually considered to hold their value over about a period of about 100 years after which they are pretty much scrap value unless you find someone who likes it as a piece of furniture. They also die quicker if they have not been tuned/played regularly.
So unlikely to be worth anything significant...but may be worth talking to these people ( which is where we got our piano from) as they advertise old grands for a fair bit on their website http://www.morleypianos.com/
initial 30-50 years there is amazingly slow depreciation - my wife has a grand (that cost around the same as my p1 which we got the same year ). The difference is that her piano is still worth most of what she paid for it..
