eBay Adverts
Why do people highlight the fact their item has NO RESERVE when they've put a starting price on it which by definition would be the reserve (i.e. the lowest they would expect to take)??
Just seems stupid to me - hardly a worthy sales pitch is it??

No i can understand that. Having a hidden reserve is fekkin annoying, and i have no idea why people do it. Personally i think people react better when there's a sensible starting price. What most people get wrong is setting this too high. You need to get people involved and then they'll keep bidding, rather than when it's been set too close to the probable trading price, which stops people getting involved in the hope of a bargain. It's all mind games at the end of the day.

Its to do with the listing fee.
If you put it up for sale and a starting price of say £250, you will be charged more in listing fees, than if you listed it initially as £1. You have to set a reserve as you dont want your video ipod for example selling for a tenner! If you dont set a reserve, there are other sneaky ways of getting the bidding up (Ie have 2 accounts or use a friends/wifes account)
With the amount you are charged in listing fees, then sellers fees when the item has been sold and then paypal fees for receiving payment, ebay is a fuc*ing joke.
Its just a simple way of cutting that down.
