can you believe this!!!??
today i was nearly speachless (its true)
i have a prepayment electricity meter in my house but there hasnt been any debt for years so i decided i wanted to change my service provider from Powergen to a cheaper alternative and pay by direct debit so i called them. i was told that when you have a prepayment meter it are there for life. you pay a higher charge for your electricity if you have a meter and you cannot change provider as they wont touch you if you have a pp-meter. i was livid
anyway i have contacted Watchdog as i feel Powergen are monopolising their customers. has anyone got any experience of this?

who took the meter out. if it was British Gas then that doesnt supprise me as they have the highest prices and would do anything to get your cash
Powergen said that the rule was very old and rigid and had no intention of changing it

I'm with BG for both gas and electricity. I get 3 letters from them the other day. First letter states I am in credit of £46 for gas. Second letter states That I am in credit of £74 with Electricity. Good, so far so good. I open the next letter it tells me both my dd debit payments are going up. Monthly Gas up from £22 to £44 per month and electric up from £42 to £79 per month.
How the F*^) can they justify such a price hike when I clearly pay over the odds now?
I have done an indepth search and the minimum I can save by moving to another company is £363 per Annum
Grittish are a buch of robbing gits..............allegedly

If you move into a property that has a prepayment meter already installed you can request for a normal meter to be put in. But if you have a normal meter then ask for a prepayment meter if you get into difficulties you are then stuck with it and cant change back.
What you are allowed to do is ring up a new suplier tell them you have just moved in and want a normal meter putting in and give them your maiden name. It worked for me

I'm with Scottish Gas and run my account online - paying by DD an agreed amount each month.
I looked at my account before summer and saw that my account stood at £120 ......... I e-mailed them asking for 2 months off from payments so that it could be brought into balance
They said that I was actually £120 in DEBIT!!!!
Although they show it as a positive CREDIT amount!!!
WTF is going on?? Whats wrong with showing it as -£120, or £120 Debit??
They said that lots of customers were confused by it - but have no plans to change it!!
Pete
