Hi All

My eyes haven't changed for 15 years. I had contact lenses about 2 years ago for a short period, but then went back to glasses.

I'm flying later today, and have lost my prescription sunglasses!!

I want to get some contact lenses today, but without going through all the eye tests and all that crap. Any idea how I convince an optician to do this?

The opticians you get your specs from should be able to do it straight away, shouldn't they?? Unless they are booked up of course.

to be honest, I don't have a specific opticians. Last glasses i bought were in heathrow airport! The ones before that were in Perth, australia. The ones before that in Greece!

Find an opticians, go and take a test and they will give you contact lenses there are then. You HAVE to do the tests unfortunately (or fake a prescription ).

I've always managed to talk opticians into doing glasses from a previous pair of glasses, but can't seem to do the same on the contact lenses this time!

ok.. the obvious question. How do I fake a prescription? My eyes are basically both -1 and have no wierdnesses, etc.

Well, you have to have one in the first place to fake it. They are not 'proper' prescriptions just a bit of company logo'd paper with your name and eyesight results.

I'm not quite sure I understand the reluctance to have the test? It takes ~20 minutes and you've probably spent more time than that trying to get out of it ..

yeah.. fair comment. It just means phoning round and having a fixed appointment, which isn't ideal today. Going to bite the bullet and just do it the normal way! Thanks for your help

Contact lense prescriptions are different from your prescription for glasses so they wouldn't give you lenses from your old prescription.

Also they have to make sure that your eyes are suitable for wearing contacts so you would have to go through the tests

I use an optician
