Default Pigeons keep eating grass seed

We've had a couple of trees removed and have seeded the area so we can have grass again, but the bloody pigeons keep eating the seed!!!

Any ideas?

Keep your garden gate closed and stop them coming in.

Seconded. Get some fruit netting from B&Q/Homebase and a load of bamboo canes chopped into pieces to rig it up so it's a foot or so off the ground. Peg it down all around the edges to stop stuff getting under it. I did that when I reseeded my front lawn and it kept all the cats and birds off it.

Shít, plan B: Try this one then, the method works outside in any beer garden if you want to have a drink without wasps bothering you.

Pour some seed in an area that doesn't require it, just so the pigeons eat that and potentially leave the other area alone. If they don't then at least there is more chance of less seed loss from the correct area.

As for the wasp idea I always buy the wasps an orange juice to keep my beer to myself.

Netting seems like a plan, although I forgot to mention the one eyed semi-blind boxer dog that will no doubt fall all over it.

I wonder if sprinkling a load of pepper will sort it? Knowing my luck pigeons love pepper though...

Just shoot one, im guessing that the sight of one of the little fellas laying there toes pointing skyward is going to be a bit off putting to the others.

I do this with my veg garden. Its does work. But i have had problems with pigeons stealing food off the bird table. For that i throw mouldy potatos at them. They soon get the message!

We had the same problem, so just put some canes in the grass with empty compost bags on top that blew in the breeze and acted like scare crows

It worked.

Isn't there an old myth that you can put some sort of broken up pill down (forget which, anadin?) and if they eat enough it reacts with something in thier stomachs and they explode upon take off

A load of old cobblers I'm sure but worth a try

that'll be alka seltzer; apparently birds can't fart so they explode

its even funnier with them bloody greedy seagulls apparently, you can just throw bits in to the air and they'll catch them, then explode.

anyway, I just want to stop them eating the seed, blowing them up won't have quite the desired effect.
