Swearing on other forums
Hmm, seems SN is pretty liberal in comparison, maybe as i am a newbie however, that is irrelevant?
I posted this on the Seat forum
"This is the situation, I currently work in Dubai, my other half is in the UK until the end of the year.
Her Galant 24V Sport as totalled by a **** who ran into it whilst stationary,
Insurance co a nightmare, pay out's, value, slowness, generally *****!
We ended up with a Mazda 626 2.0l which has been a ***. I thought it would be relaible but no, not in this case, been into the dealership 4 times (three weeks in total). Keeps stalling/cutting out and still not resolved. All fixed (well almost, paid for) under warranty but a ****. My better half has lost faith and wants rid!
I have spoken with the garage we got it from and they have a Seat Toledo 1.8SE MY2000 on a V. They will do a straight swap for the Mazda POS, which we paid 1,500.00UKP for three months ago.
We only need it for 6 months - until Jenny comes out to Dubai.
It has 140K miles on it FSSH.
12 months ticket
Just had new disks and pads all round, usual SE spec.
Now then,
Are they relaible?
Are there any known faults or things to look for/check
What sort of MPG can we expect with mixed driving
Many thanks"
Link.

six replies so far, mostly about my 'swearing'
Words they blanked
**** - OK a bit near the mark maybe
****E
POS
PITA
It seems a little strict, overly so, discuss?

I was once warned for mis-spelling things like ****, **** and $h!t and told that "as this is an open BBS there may be children viewing". I asked them if they had been anywhere near a school in the last 20 years, as the language you generally hear being shouted at the top of their voices would make a docker blush I'm in no way advocating its flagrant use, but sometime it can be acceptable when a point needs to be emphasised, much as you would do in everyday normal conversation. These words as mostly accepted English, listed in dictionaries and feature in classic literature. Their use can be justified, but their over-use can also be indicative of low intellect, poor grammar or excessive aggression. If people use them in a balanced and proper way then I have no problem with them.

Now and again I look at a local band/music site ('cos my boy is in a band) which is mostly used by under sixteens. No swear filters and the language is appaling. It's all flying around - the f word, the c word etc. Makes SN look like Mother Teresa's Home Page Rather spoils the site to be honest. dl

i think it depends on the forum's audience as to what is acceptable.
i mod on 2 Cortina forums - both are family orientated, so we have strict swear filters in place...
personally i think there is no place for swearing on a forum - its not really necessary...

Swearing is fine if used moderatley to emphasise a point rather than because you don't know a word.
Some moderators on some sites use swearing as some kind of ***** extention to their "powers" to show off how mighty they are and how they can ban us at a push of a button.
Then you get the kiss **** do gooders who seem to think that they need moderators to be their friends and so post their displeasure on your thread so that they can look righteous when a Mod does eventually find the thread!
There, now move on, there's nothing more to see here
