Thumbs down interesting NIP

Received an interesting NIP today.

43 in a 30 zone, at 12.46pm !!!

interesting thing is

• it’s in a part of the country I have never visited,
• On a road I have never driven on,
• On a day when the car was parked in the execs car park at Doncaster train station from 7.10am to 4.30pm.
• And I was in canary wharf with a major client. !!!

Hmmmm

Now you have the major inconvenience of proving what you have detailed.
Presumably at your own cost, certainly of time.
However, if there is a clone car about and the driver is apprehended sometime, they will probably have legal assistance provided at the Taxpayers' expense.

Right got through to them, started to explain and just got ‘send us a letter detailing why you don’t agree with the NIP’
I raised my concern re a possible clone and got in reply ‘send us a letter detailing why you don’t agree with the NIP’
Will someone come back to me and explain if its an error or it is a clone and I got in reply ‘send us a letter detailing why you don’t agree with the NIP, someone may or may not respond depended upon our review of your claim’

Explained it’s not a claim its FACT, do you want copy’s of my train tickets ? ‘No, send us a letter detailing why you don’t agree with the NIP’

FFS !!!

Another good reason why you shouldn't post car registration numbers on SN...

Another case of guilty until you can (at your cost, money and time) prove yourself innocent.

Still at least when all cars are fitted with tracking devices and speed monitoring equipment this will become a thing of the past.

By the way it sounds as if they were really interested and helpful. Why not just pay up? Its what they want you to do.

I think at best they could be described as totally uninterested in relation to my concerns.

You need to contact the DVLA to inform them that your car registration has been cloned, then phone the proper police and tell them. Follow up with a written copy. Write to the scammers asking for photos of the alleged offence as you believe your car has been cloned, explain you were in a meeting at the other end of the country( with witneses) and let them know who else you have contacted. The scammers will then take some notice.

a similar thing happened to my ex... he received an NIP for a car that was in pieces in the garden in Plymouth, that had apparently gone through a camera in London at a similar speed...

as my ex was useless at dealing with things i took photos of the car in situ (to prove there was no way it had moved for sometime - difficult without wheels and an engine), and photocopied the sorn notice and sent it to the police. lo and behold he eventually got a letter of apology from the issuing police force...

turns out that my ex had bought a car indirectly from a London company director... unfortunately the company director had "forgotten" that he didn't own the registration and was using the number on his new car...

guess you don't have such conclusive evidence...

Wouldn't the train station car park have cameras in? It might help.

Just ask to see the photo. Probably the computer misreading the plate. If it is the same reg as yours, then worry about cloning.

I have,

On the evidence I have collated the following,
• Car park ticket from train station
• Train ticket (pre booked seat)
• Security check in at the clients premises (this was the day all hell broke loose at the airports)
Security check out. (Time etc)
Return train ticket and receipt for food () on train.

I suppose if the dibble push for more then I could as suggested contact the train station for CCTV of the car park.

Shouldn't have to , it's up to them to prove your guilt, not you to prove your innocence

Get all the evidence together, embarrass them in court, and claim hefty expenses for having to waste a day of your life in court.

I would just write to them as they asked detailing out what you have said and quite simply await their reply.

If it isn't a misread and the car has been cloned they will deal with that side of it.

Yes, it is a pain, but if you do what they want they can't complain you are not acting other than as they requested ...... They are effectively a government department - who will always want everthing in writing before they lift a finger to look into it !

Pity they are so slow to hand out the evidence when they are asked though!

As a point of concern, you need to prove where the car was. Simply saying you were somewhere else at the time of the alleged offence will not do. They will simply come back to you and tell you that by law you must provide deatils of the driver as you are the registered keeper.

Best advice would be to get over to http://www.pepipoo.com/ , register and fill in the NIP wizard. There are people in there that will help you.

Hope you get this sorted

john
