I had a big old Ash with a TPO and was told by council to trim off the dead branches as it was a danger. Cost me £600 but it was tall and the lads needed harnesses etc. Took them most of the day. Obviously depends what needs doing. dl

I keep getting Tree Surgeons come around my house (we have a big cherry tree in the front).

They have a Transit van, speak with Irish Accents and smell ....

The writing on the side of their van cracks me up:-

'Tree Serjuns - Fullie Insurred 0791-7654321' The paint has generally run somewhat too!!!

Foookin Pikeys!!

So, my advice to you is to leave your garage open with a nice new quad bike in the entrance with keys in .............. that night, about 2am, the Pikey Tree Surgeons will be so eager to start work that they will have allready got into your garage to set-up for the days work!!

I've just had a 75ft Eucalyptus tree felled for £300. Started work at 9am and finished it at 6pm. It was between 3 of my buildings and so couldn't just be dropped.

It did help that is was a foreigner, albeit the 2 guys were fully trained and had all the equipment.

I also had a 40ft Willow felled by a firm who invoiced the overhead cable company for £800 and that took only 20 minutes to the point of shredding!! A mobile platform was used here and the guy could get Straight in, with no need to be too careful as there were no buildings nearby.

They'll want to charge according to the height involved, level of difficulty, if you require them to remove the brash and time.

There is an art to chopping branches correctly to prevent damage to the tree. (The chap was explaining to me at great length.) He called it a 'target' cut which basically means the wound from the chopped branch will scar over and shouldn't allow the tree to rot, apparently, if I listened correctly.

Can you get away without somebody climbing the tree? Tree surgeons can have some very long extending loppers that should keep the cost down.

I paid one of the blokes on a separate visit to lop branches off a couple of trees for £25.

I am a tree surgeon, so a bit of advice

Check for insurance - ask to see current documents. The insurance is very expensive so a lot of people don't bother.

Check for qualifications. NPTC CS30/31 is use of a chainsaw CS 38/39 is chainsaw when climbing, without these they are not insured.

My guess from the pictures depending on how much you want off it, less than £200 including a full clean up provided no phone lines, power lines etc and access is OK.

PM me if you need any more info

Kev

Is it Edinburgh?
If so, Colinton Tree Surgeons. Used them and they are good. All the gear, fully insured, and take ALL the mess away and tidy up.
