New Labour Police State strikes again... no dancing
Back in the days when I was a 'Cheesy Quaver' raves were always allowed to proceed with a few bemused coppers hanging around on the perimeters enjoying earning the overtime.
These days though you are more likey to take a beating from an army of Kevlar clad gooks...
"They came and surrounded the first sound system and then got closer and closer until it turned into a proper confrontation and then they started beating people,"
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/essex/5290134.stm
At least, one of the Blair's boys got his finger end chopped off.
But even so, what the hell is going on in our once green and pleasant land? Let the kids have a bit of a rave on a Bank Holiday without all this:
Public safety and upholding the law are paramount so Essex Police mounted a 'controlled operation'
Bull****.

If there's a legal issue regarding 'trespass' then that can be sorted out post the event by the courts. That how we used to do things in this country once upon a time.

hah thats a joke, we had one near us, last year...
what did the local bib do
SOD ALL!!!! they claimed it would have been too dangerous to go onto the land in the dark, and the saftey of the officers was paramount, so they put a car at the end of the road to try and deter any new arrivals, and left them to it!!
bollox to the 5000 odd residents in the nearby towns who had to put up with the crap all night..
nice to know they have our interests at heart

a few of my mates were there.
said it was rather scary, but some gave as good as they got.
the crackdown was ordered after the 2006 teknival in devon where 6000 people turned up and they linked 15 soundsystems together in a 147k horseshoe.
On the back of that they had to crackdown to show the ravers whos boss.
I went legal raving this weekend in light of this information.
A bit heavy handed according to my friends, but in this game you win some you lose some. Just remember.
"You can never shut down the entire party, you dont have access to that switch, no matter what you may think. The music will never stop. The party will never end."

So on the one hand if a bunch of people break the law it is a shocking example of police state overreacting, and yet in another where they break the law it is shocking example of political correctness gone wrong leading to gross leniency.
Just check over your thread history Mr UB and decide which is it to be.
OK to the break the law, or if the law is broken then apply the full force of the law of the land in line with the judicial precedent? You can't have it both ways.
Astraboy who actually goes to these events has it exactly spot on - he knows the risks and manages the consequences. He doesn't just sit behind his PC using it as an excuse to develop a stilted political agenda.

Large scale illegal raves cause more damage, more disturbance and leave more rubbish than a field full of Pikeys and we all know how the thread would go if it was pikeys instead of ravers.
A bit two faced from some people if you ask me.
The cost of the clear up can run into tens of thousands which has to be picked up by the land owner or local authority. So we would be OK with higher council tax to pay for it?
The police action was justified IMO, it was hardly worth the local bobby turning up on his bike.
Just need the police to take the same action with the pikeys.
Cheers

The hypocracy on this BBS is a joke. It was an Illegal event.
Should have shot the ****ers from a distance, made sure no police injury .
Funny how trespass, criminal damage and drug dealing is somehow "ok" in these circumstances

Its dificult to explain unless you've actually been to one and appreciate it for what it is.
The heavy handedness is not always necessary. I remember going to a rave when the old bill turned up. It was looking bad when three cars came in, lights on, but after a bit of a chat with the organisers, and a small departure to chat with his super, the senior copper returned to the rave, on his own and an agreement was reached where the ravers could have their party provided the music was off and they were packing up by 10am and a litter pick was done .
The lone copper hand was shaked (several times) before he left and a single police car was left at the entrance to monitor things. At 10am the music stopped and the site was spotless when they left.
Quite often, compromise is better than cracking skulls. It engenders mutual respect for starters. gets results to.
