cleaning a leather watch strap
I got this watch last year on our wonderful tour of the Swiss Alps, in a little town near where we were staying:
It's now beginning to smell like manky slippers! I use it mainly as my work watch, and due to the recent warm spell, my wrist has been particulaly sweaty
Any ideas on the best way to clean the strap? I'd rather not replace it, as it is a very comfortable strap, but will do if it can't be cleaned.

There is a special leather cream for handbags etc - can't remember the name of it .. I wouldn't use car leather cleaner
Then use a little bit of dubbin to protect it after
Test an inconspicous area first

Once that smell is in it, it's impossible to get rid of. Saddle soap will clean it up but next time it gets wet or sweaty the smell will come back.
Time for a new strap
Try this site if you want choice. I use them for watches and they are excellent.

Thanks for your comments guys Less wrist action indeed!
Alas, like that site, think I'll order this one if the smell does return. http://www.rltwatches.com/acatalog/Swiss_Rubber.html
I've given it a good wash in the shower, I'll see what it's like after a few days drying.
