Driving to Scandinavia. Any tips?
Hi all, I was wondering if somebody can give me any tips for my upcoming trip to Scandinavia. I will be travelling by car. Reason for these vacations are mainly photo related. So if somebody has already experienced a trip to scandinavia and knows about some picturesque places to go, please let me know. I am currently looking at Denmark, Sweden and Norway.

Well having been to Norway i'd say you'd be pushing to do all of Scandanavia, as Norway alone is simply huge. I'd say get a ferry from Newcastle to Bergen which in itself is a lovely place especially Bryggen harbour - you can take a ride up a coupleof the mountains, and the view is out of this world. However speaking to a few Norwegians - whom i have to say are the friendliest people i have ever met, they tell me The Lofoten Islands are amazing, someone on here likened them to something out of Lord Of The Rings type scenary.
Voss is also meant to be nice as is the North Cape, but like i said it is a huge place, and you'd really need a couple of weeks to explore!!!
Also Norway is extremely expensive i.e. 6.50 for 0.4 litre beer, a sandwich will be a fiver and a simple meal with chips - best part of 20 quid. take your own booze and a food hamper and if your on a budget take a tent and camp or stay in these log cabins that are normally on most sites and are a damn site cheaper than a hotel, these are normally 20-40 quid per cabin, so they work out cheap if there is more than one person.

You could hire a McLaren Merc SL55 or whatever it was and race two of your mates there, them travelling by plane and boat while you drive as fast as you can.
What? Been done before? Who would be mad enough to do that?

Thanks for the tips.
Hmm, I think I will try the McLaren Merc SL55 next time around.
So, my scandinavian trip looks as follows within the next 12-14 days:
From Switzerland as fast as possible through Germany to Denmark
Then the trip looks as follows with possible stops at the below locations:
In Denmark: Arhus, Aalborg, Frederikshavn (Ferry) to...
Sweden: Goteborg to...
Norway version 1 (preferred road): Oslo, Drammen, Arendal, Kristiansand, Stavanger, Haugesund, Bergen, Oslo
Norway version 2 (direct way): Oslo, Bergen, Oslo
In Sweden: Karlstad, Orebro, Stockholm, Norrkoping, Linkoping, Jonkoping, Helsingborg, Malmo, to….
Denmark: Copenhagen
Germany -> Switzerland
I am looking very much forward to this.
Cheers, Daniel

Thanks again for the infos. Since I am driving all the time with the headlights on, I don't have to worry. I thinks I know which bridge you mean and I am sure that I will be passing over that. Seeting the Sweden Rally would have been really nice but my vacation is now.
So, tomorrow is the day of my start. 'May the boost be with me'. Cheers, Daniel

Scandinavian Pics are up
Hi All
Thanks again for all your kind suggestions before I went on my vacation to Scandinavia with my Impreza MY00. In the end, the trip was 10 days long and the car has now 5'600 km more on its clock.
For those who are interested, please have a look at my photos I have put on my pbase website. Hope you enjoy them (comments are welcome)...

The journey was as follows:
Zurich (Switzerland)
Flensburg (Germany)
Arhus (Denmark)
Frederickshaven (Denmark) with Ferry to
Goteborg (Sweden)
Oslo (Norway)
Kristiansand (Norway)
Stavanger (Norway)
Bergen (Norway)
Oslo (Norway)
Copenhaven (Denmark)
Zurich (Switzerland)
I highly recommend this trip to anybody who likes to visit Scandinavia sometime. The people I have met were all very friendly and helpful. Just be informed that gasoline and alcohol is very expensive up there and don't expect to see any reindeer.
Cheers, Daniel
