Default Claiming bank charges back from banks....anyone into this cult activity!

Had no idea this was such a big thing on the net...loads of sites dedicated to it.

Anyway, over the last 6 years i have paid one of my banks about £1,500 in excess overdraft fees, etc, etc (i ran more than one account and was just crap and lazy and checking my balances and didnt care about the odd £30 fine for going over)

About to send of my letter and hoping for a £1500 for my trouble (wife doesnt belive it'll work so said i can blow it on any old crap if i get it new camera i think!)

I complain about everything

I'm currently battling Adrian Flux for £75. They want me to pay their commission on an insurance policy I cancelled. Not a hope in hell. Financial Ombudsman here we come!

The only thing to be aware of now is that the banks are now sometimes closing the accounts of anyone who 'claims'. So, if you have any reason to want to maintain your account with them (would have to be a very good reason), then beware.

Other than that, good luck. Seems to work for many right now. Banks just don't want to go to court with it.

Perhaps you should use that on your literature when attempting to secure customers wanting you to give them financial advice.

You should point out that all the time you are overdrawn, you are looking after all that money and not them. Put a claim in for storage costs for all that money, basing the calculations on a particularly bulky coin. Good luck.

I'll try and find a link for you. One of the people that started this is local to me. He was the one on the channel 5 news about it. It does work and the reason the banks pay out is because of the possible implications of it going to court and them loosing. If this happened they would have to pay back every charge they have made! Not a good precedent. So as long as the number of people claiming remains realtively small, they are willing to pay out!

An old pal came to lunch on Sunday and said he was claiming back money for late payment charges on credit cards using Freedom of Information Act and OFT ruling. I joked and said he didn't stand a snowball's and he said he had just got a cheque for £800 from one company and was waiting for others. dl

My pal's gone on his hols so I can't ask but I think there was a nominal fee - £10? - for 6 years' worth of statements. Must be a bloody headache for card companies which is excellent

Do the letters go to your branch, head office, or any branch? I'm quite well known at my home branch so would be a bit embarassed to send it there...

Well if you send it to the banks head office, chances are they'll forward it to your branch anyway.

What's to be embarassed about, all the staff have access to your account anyway so it's not like they don't know what state your account's in.

Thanks Steve. My account's not in a bad state now - but it's been niggling me that while I was a student they took over £1500 from me in charges. There was even a time when my insurance co tried to take money 4 times in one day and I was hit with 4 separate charges of £30 - my insurance payment was only £33! .

I'm better behaved with my finances now that I'm no longer a scruffy tax-dodging student - but would love to get revenge on my bank.
