WTF is it with barclays
i asked for an over draft on my account and ive been refused
I havent got money to burn so when i get overdrawn over £6 thay slap a £30 charge on me. Im getting pi55ed of with it now. Theyve done it about 4 times now.
Im going to see them tommorow and threaten to change banks, I just cant afford to waste money like this. Its not helping me get back on my feet.
Any suggestions for decentish bank would be helpful.
Cheers steve

been with barclays for years, tbh i would change if they all wernt the same.
had my overdraft removed because i didn't use it for 6 months. only had it set up in case of emergencies, dim fools. only found out when i got charged for going £15 into it, or what i thought it was, so i rang them and had a right go, got refund back.

barclays w*nk
Closed my account with them shortly after finishing my degree after finding out first hand how totally crap and incompetent they are.
Will never get my banking custom ever again!
Had absolutely no problems with Nationwide- have been with them a long time.

A few years back i changed my standard barclays account to there gold version. I think i paid £5 a month for the gold account, but what i did get was a free £500 overdraft facility aswell as other things like a free 'will' service.
I cancelled it after a month, once i had got my 'will' sorted, and the free £500 overdraft has stayed on. I've used it on several occasions and have never been charged.

If you have a mortgage, get a One Account. You can then use any equity you have (up to your agreed amount) as log as it is all paid back before you retire.
If you want one and want to save £125, let me know via PM and I can recommend you (helps me out too)

I've always received excellent service from Barclays, maybe it depends on your branch and local account managers.
If I moved it would probably be to Nationwide as they seem to be about the best in terms of charging fees.

Barclays seem to devote all their time to offering me loans.
I think most banks are the same generally and despite promises a change to a new bank will be simple,I couldn't face the thought of the incompetents trying to carry out that simple procedure.

I agree barclays are crap!
Have thought about changing myself, but i get the impression all banks are crap.
I know an unemployed girl who has a larger overdraft than me, and has been given a loan, despite no job....wheres the sense in that??

I should keep better track but I'm a bit rubbish with managing money and first direct are rip off merchants on charges.
If you have a DD that takes you over limit and they pay it, they charge 30 quid overdraft fee.
If they bounce the DD, they charge you 37.50 to recall it and it's pretty arbitrary whether they pay it or not.
They're all as bad as each other tbh.

First Direct are awesome, been with them for years! Far & away the most refreshing Bank out there. Always friendly & helpful ... every time they've warned me of an OD fee I've just called them up & they've cancelled it.
Was with Barclays at Uni & they were shocking ... moved away straight after Uni finished & I started earning some real money
TX.

got talked into a barclays sweeper account that takes £100 from one account and puts into a higher rate, BARCLAYS account once per month, until BARCLAYS took the £100 making me overdrawn and then charging me £40 for the pleasure, (thats £40 from one BARCLAYS account to another BARCLAYS account, so barclays still had my money). called them and was told i should control my finances better!!
went into the branch, made a fuss and got the money back.

I have a £300 free overdraft with Barclays, I accidentally went over it a few months back and they sent me a letter saying that as this was the first time it had happened and I was such a good customer they would waive the fee.

Now trying it with Smile myself (had a few MAJOR cash-flow problems and would hate to think what I have paid in charges in the last 6 years!)

"the computer says no!"
The human decision making element has gone out of banking.
IMHO all the hightstreet baks are pretty much the same, i think you have answered you won question
Overdraft + low interest on the balance, going overdrawn + 30.00 - cher-ching!
Now then what earns the most for them and their share holders?

I have been with Barclays for years and, sometimes they p!ssed me off, sometimes they were great.
Overdraft depends upon the credit history with your account itself. If you have regular money coming into your account to cover that,it shouldn't be a problem.Have you tried going Additions Plus with Barclays,Watto? Many benefits with that e.g. car breakdown etc. and,you get free overdraft facility.
You have to pay a little monthly fee to upgrade your account to the Additions Plus account.

Slightly off topic but.......
A guy i know was terminally ill and had severel credit cards, owed approx £20k.
Went to the bank for advice when he was told he was dying, they gave him a loan to clear the debts but had no life cover.....despite the fact his cards all had the life cover included. They told him this was the best thing to do
Has now passed away, and now his family are now seeking legal advice against the bank.
Not sure which bank it was, but is very shocking
